Hi Irish, I've only made 1 sock monkey so don't have Pennib's experience but I sewed strip of wool across the muzzle to make a mouth. Using a large darning needle I tacked the wool at each end, and then used a couple of small stitches in matching thread to hold it in place.
Haven't explained that very well but I found this looked better than my first attempt at the mouth where I tried to do a running stitch in wool.
Pennib, do you have any advice for knitting the hats? my monkey looks a bit bald :rotfl:0 -
Any suggestions folks of easy pattern ideas for 12yr old girls making sock animals. I am doing a craft group with our youth club girls whilst we are on camp in the summer and thought that sock animals/creatures would be fun. Are there any easy tutorials out there for the easy ones. Not sure of their ability but want them to do some sewing. There will prob be a ratio of 1 adult to 5 girls so should be ok. I expect we will have use of 3 sewing machines and we have full use of the scout hut etc on site. I have a friend who usually can donate plenty of new socks so we will need to go with colours patterns etc that we are given if she can help us out again Thanks in advanceNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

Pennib - they are all brilliant as usual and i just love the socks!
Sethsgran - sock pigs are quite easy to make in comparrison to sock monkeys.
star123 - i would use felt or safety eyes depending on age. felt for newborn up to about 2 years then safety eyes off ebay.
i have been so busy which is why i havent put on any piccys. i started a childcare level 2 course and have so much work to do for that (even though no one else in the class gets as much as me!!!). plus in 2 weeks i have a craft fair so need to do stuff fo that and my sister asked for a sock dragon. been so busy but have kept an eye on the thread!!!!hopefully in a few weeks things will calm down and i can make new things. but my witch was loved and didnt scare anyone!!
