My monkey took me about 7 hours all together. think I need a bit more practice heehee
I don't think 7 hours is bad going at all to be honest. The first monkey I made (using a sewing machine) took me ages. If you're like me you'll be hooked on sock monkeys now, so will get lots of practice!!!:D :rotfl::T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -

I've actually started on my next one already! Going to try stuffing them with smaller bits of stuffing though so not so lumpy. Will probably take forever though!0 -

Eeeek my photo is big but dont know how to make it smaller...
Okay so here is my first ever sock monkey heehe! Had to do her by hand as sewing machine isnt working. she's a bit lumpy so i'm going to have to try to smooth that out and hopefully the next 2 will work out a bit better.
I'm pleased with it really thoughThanks for all the tips!

chasingsunshine; the stuffing is the hardest bit I think. I often have to re-stuff cos it's gone lumpy but well done you. Keep at it and before you know it you will be one of the growing band who hang around the sock racks dribbling!!!!
Who are you going to give her to?
Kisto; Aww what lovely monkeys.....bet the recipients are going to be chuffed to bits. Must have taken you a while to figure out how to do those wings....love the little wand that's brilliant. And a girl karate that's fab.0 -

I have a special "stuffing stick" for pushing the stuffing into those harder to reach parts (like tail, head and legs)! It's just a shaved bare stick (probably collected from the woodland by one of my kids) about 20cm long and 1cm wide. Everybody knows not to touch my stuffing stick!!!
The first few monkeys I did I overstuffed them, ramming as much stuffing in as possible. Now I don't go quite so overboard and find it works better! When it is not too stuffed you can manipulate the stuffing to smooth it out a bit. I also roll the arms and legs in my hands to round them off if needed.
Hope you're having fun working on your next monkey?!:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
I too have a 'special' stuffing stick!
Nuttybabe, well done on working out a pattern. I think the hardest part must be writing
instructions out cos you know what you mean!! I hope we will see lots of dinasours on this thread now!0 -
thanks pennib. that is the problem, i had it in my head but transferring it on paper was quite hard!!!
Kisto - i really love the fairy monkey. another one for my list!!!!
Chasingsunshine - even with a sewing machine it takes me around 7 hours!!! lol. I used the sewing machine on tuesday evening to do the basics of 4 sock monkeys. i then spent the rest of tuesday evening and yesterday evening doing the first one!!!! Maybe I should turn the computer off so i dont check it every 5 mins and they would get done soon!!!!0 -

Heehee that sounds like me!I've done all the stitching on monkey #2 now just need to get on and stuff it and sew it together!
I've been using a knitting needle to help stuff. works okay but definately need more practice!0 -
