  • I am currently in dispute with a credit card provider who took over my previous provider last year. Basically my provider is trying to bill me for payments made fraudulently to my account. I have contacted them numerous times over the past four months and they still haven't corrected my account despite several assurances they will. In the meantime interest is accruing and they told me to stop my DD payments until the matter is resolved. So because of their failure to act I'm being charged for unmade payments and they have threatened court action. The matter is in the hands of the Financial Ombudsman service.

What I'd like to know is would they have already made notes to my credit history and when the matter is resolved will they remove any notes to return my history to its previously unblenished state? And if they don't what are my legal rights to force them to remove them?

CreditExpert, otoh, have sent a PIN code in the post, bit of a hassle.
Then I tried to phone to cancel. Phoned several times but couldn't get through, not even into a queue. Just get a message saying ring later or e-mail us. So I e-mailed them to cancel, and just got a message saying if you want to cancel you have to phone. I mailed again saying you don't answer the phone, and just got the same mail back. This is a lot of a hassle. Looks like I might have to send them a recoreded dlivery letter if I can't get through on the phone and they won't accept it by e-mail. So BEWARE of signing up with them.

What number did you call? I signed up night before last to get the £7 quidco bonus and letter came through this morning. I just rang the freephone number 0800 656 9000 on the letter, chose option 4 I think it was, spoke to someone inside a couple of minutes who cancelled my account in the blink of an eye. Couldn't have been any easier. Perhaps the time of day you ring makes a difference - I did it at 10am ish.
  • Hi all,

I have a quick query. My credit report is spotless apart from one default 4 years ago. I had taken out a contract with three (mobile company) and because it was never working I have cancelled and asked for final bill. This came through but from what I can remember was only ordinary bill. Then I moved house. 4 months later I had met my old landlord who gave me bunch of letters from three.
Basically, I was given a default and threatened to be taken to court over £100. I have paid money to their debt collector and default was marked as satisfied.
Anyone knows what to do to get this deleted? It`s their word against mine. Their call centre (customer support) is a joke. It`s ruining my credit score!

    Thanks,

    Maria

We do not have the right to have data removed if it is basically correct, but you can ask the credit reference agencies to put a notice of correction on file explaining why you think information is misleading. This notice will then be seen by banks, mobile phone companies etc, when you apply for credit.

Note: most credit decisions are computerised, so if there is a notice of correction on your report, your credit applications will take longer to process, because they have to be referred for a manual decision i.e. a person will decide whether or not you can get credit.
People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.

Three are actually very good at removing defaults, I had something very similar to the above but they never marked my account as "satisfied", almost a year after I paid the debt collection agency. So I went through Equifax's online dispute system and a day or so later, Equifax got back to me and the "3 Credit Underwriter" had removed the default and late payments from all three of my credit files!

So this might be an avenue you might explore, even though your circumstances are a little different?
  • Hi,
I have just checked my Credit File with Experian following a refusal of an application for an Abbey Creidt Card.
The file is spotless (although perhaps a little too much available credit - I better get cancelling catalogues), except for a British Gas default. Its the angry '8' for the account which is now set as 'satisified'. However, I feel it is worth me writing to Experian to explain that the bill was being disputed and it took well over a year of back and forth and British Gas compleltey forgetting the whole story on more than one occasion, resulting in several debt collection letters. I may not be successful as we did pay part of the bill when BG eventually agreed to write off a good portion of it seeing that they had done wrong.
Does anyone have any tips on what information to provide Experian? I was thinking I could include copies of emails with the complaints department etc. Is it just a waste of time trying?
    Thank you

  • Hey All!
I bank with Lloyds TSB. Recently I went to them to sort out some finances and they told me they had a service which enabled them to repair my credit report!! I was a very bad boy about 3 yrs ago and defaulted on three accounts! I was told that I could ask the lenders to remove the indicators from my credit files!! I rang the three companies and 1 said yes they would whilst the other two said no!!! My question is do they have to do it as I've now been debt free for two years and have no debt whats so ever but this is still damaging my credit??
  • Sorry guys - bear with me on this.

I have a Virgin credit card and the 0% balance transfer rate is due to expire mid-April. I want to tart the balance prior to the standard rate coming in to force, but I'm worried my current available credit will affect my ability to get extra credit. I've never had any real problems applying for credit before (1 missed payment in May last year) and in decent permanent employment but I'm concerned that I've never had 3 credit cards before either, and I'm conscious that the current situation is probably having an effect on consumer credit applications and applying for an additional one could be problematic. A sign of this is when I recently applied for a Nationwide current a/c without an overdraft and all they would offer me was a cash card!!

Therefore I'm planning on closing accounts with cleared overdrafts and considering cancelling my NatWest card (with £5k limit) to try and give myself some credit breathing space when I come to reapply. However my NatWest is my emergency card and if I cancel it, then when I reapply I'm turned down, I don't want to be left in the position where I'm left without (and obviously don't want to spend on my 0% cards). I'm also conscious that I already have 3 cards and worry that the number of cards I have will affect any decisions.

    So my questions are:

    a) How long does it take for both cancelled overdrafts and cancelled credit cards to reflect on your credit file?

    b) Following the 'credit-crunch' (urgh) is it having a direct effect on applying for consumer credit, or shouldn't it matter?

    c) are there any other options (i.e. reducing NatWest credit limit) that will have a genuine positive impact on my credit score?

Thanks guys, appreciate your help! :D

Can anyone please help me :)

I have just viewed my credit file for the 1st time ever. - Thanks to Martins article :money:

Since viewing it I have a few questions: Sorry to be a pain

1- I have a default which is dated the 28/02/2003 - when will this be removed from my account? and will it be removed all together or will it still show.

2- I had a trust deed until Jan this year, now finished, Letter to support that. Now there is another company who has also palced a default on my account. Will this remain for the full 6yrs or will it be removed as the account is now cleared due to trust deed being complete :)

3- When you view the account - Under Account information - It lists any creditors - Now 3 out of 5 say Satisfactory and when I go in to show details they say green 0 - I assume this is all good?

I am sorry to ask so many questions.

  • I have a couple of things I would like advice on from you good people, firstly, I took out a secured loan with Barclays 3 years ago. They mis-sold me PPI with it which the FOS has just told them to pay back, but at the time of selling me the loan they put my girlfriend on as an applicant. I think they did this as part of the PPI as she has no income nor is the house in joint names. I called them up today and asked them to remove her name but they say that because she lives in the house, is my partner and is over 18 she has to be on the loan. Is this correct? Secondly, She has a perfect credit score but is unable to get credit, I think that this is because I have defaults on my file and because she is associated with me due to this loan it is affecting her to. Barclays are sending out a form so that we can apply to remove her name but the loan but the lady I spoke to more or less told me not to hold my breath. What do you think?
