Try Tazacorte on La Palma, in fact the whole island is quiet and the capital is small and manageable. Have you considered Porto Santo which is a small island in the Madeira group.

Meloneras on Gran Canaria is nice, its a fairly new resort, clean and tidy and quite smart. It`s next to Mapalomas where there are miles of sand dunes and beaches. Next up the coast is Playa des Ingles where things get a bit more hectic.

Yet another vote for Playa Blanca here, it is beautiful and everything you have asked for. Probably my favourite place.
  • Playa blanca again, only place I would live if I ever left england
  • You could try Golf Del Sur in Tenerfie its a purpose built resort (not just for golf enthusiasts as the name might imply) and is chilled and quiet.
Its also 10 mins from the airport, although you don;t notice the plans when your there

It has some nice restaurants, lots of hotels and shops etc.
A 15 min jaunt along the beach brings you to a traditional.
Round the coast the other way is the usual resorts of Playa etc and you can catch a regular bus there if you want the golden sands (Golden sands are all man made beaches over there)
Golf has some lovely coves which have usable beaches even if they arent golden.

I am planning to book a holiday to Lanzarote too, trying to decide between Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. PDC seems to have more character and restaurants, whereas PB seems to be quieter (maybe too quiet?). Also someone said that PB is still being developed and there is a lot of building work/noise. Oh and which of the two resorts has better beaches?

I've seen a place called La Penita in PDC, does anyone know it?

    Thanks.

    Another query!

Anyone know where is nice and quiet in the Canaries? I've heard good things about Puerto del Carmen but that's about it.

    I would like:

Somewhere quiet with no lager lout types
A town/village nearby (i.e. not a resort in the middle of nowhere)
Golden sand beaches rather than volcanic ash

Hmm, not sure about golden sand, but you could do much worse than the Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque: http://www.bahia-duque.com/index.php/hotel_en

It's on the posh end of Costa Adeje. Basically at this end you have a pricey shopping mall (i.e. not chavvy) and some sedate hotels. Walk a mile up the road and it's all chavs and chips, but you are pretty well-insulated there. Go the other direction (i.e. drive), and it's basically unspoiled, you can visit pretty towns. The volcanic sand is not bad actually. Beats Brighton anyway!!!!!

Failing that try the Sheraton La Caleta http://www.sheratonlacaleta.com/ which is further along the coast, slightly more removed from the action.

Gran Canaria resorts Maspalomas + Meloneras are just what you're after :D

I have been with my now fiance 3 times (we got engaged in Maspalomas last Oct) - Maspalomas is a proteced area with mainly bungalow style accomodation - it has the famous dunes which stretch from Meloneras up to Playa del Ingles.

Ideal spot for everything - close to Playa del Ingles (lively), Maspalomas Golf club, Faro shopping centers in Maspalomas are nice for an evening meal (mega steaks !!) + walk

Meloneras - upmarket area, mainly 4* or better hotels - great beach front fish restaurants - mega steaks - great duty free + designer shops (inc Lacoste Diesel Breitling etc), lovely promenade to walking, running etc for about 2/3 miles

Both areas are very clean + tidy - no football shirts - 99% of people dont wear sports gear in the evenings

Hope the above makes sense !! As you can tell we really love the area - we tend to avoid Playa del Ingles as highrise hotels and beerheads do not appeal to us !!
