I've been told that if a car has front foglights, then they MUST work for the MOT. However, if a car doesnt have them, then it doesnt matter.

If the law doesnt require a car to have front foglights, why shoudl it be part of the MOT test?

It is mandatory to have functioning windscreen wipers for MOT, but not mandatory to have a windscreen. Before anyone jumps on me, a friend has a wartime US jeep without a screen. He had problems with this.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

Pretty sure as goldspanners says if they're fitted they should work. Though if you cover them up them don't have to test them

I have heard that if you remove the bulbs, they won't test them.

yes i would go with this,if they arent there or are covered up then they cant test them and as all cars dont have them fitted they are not an essential item.

I think you have been misinformed. Front fog lights are not tested on the MOT even if fitted. And they are excluded from being required to be in working order when the vehicle is used on the road.....hence why they are not tested in the MOT.

Wipers are not tested on vehicles with opening windscreens and vehicles with an alternative means of providing the driver with an adequate view (tanks spring to mind).

As most 151 jeeps have windscreens, are you sure it did not have a fold down windscreen and a tester who did know what he was doing?

I just researched the 151 jeep and I did find a few references to some without windscreens. I also found that the US Army have declared them to be unsafe for road use and as such have a mandatory destruction policy on all jeeps ending service, and this applies to all jeeps given in aid to other countries.

I'd be surprised if a car was allowed to have no windscreen.

    Reversing lights aint either.
As it's not fair as some cars have one and other have two.
Lots of things aint covered on the MOT, yet people seem to think that the MOT means that the car doesnt need servicing or looking after...
I car can also have its front bumper missin, yet if half was left it would fail as its a danger to pedestrians.
