Amy and Jon bite the bullet to get debt free.....

Everyone seems to have a diary, so ive decided to do one...:-) First ive done a SOA on another thread so im ok with that :-)..... i just like to rant about things because well myfamily dont see debt how me and oh see debt " the sooner we get shut of it the better" whereas my family think the people you owe the debt to should worry not us which can be quite upsetting when you think your doing something positive with things..... Anyhow so far this week OH has made 300 quid through his business of computers and helping people with problems so thats a positive boost..... Ive made all the payments to cc a pound above minimum payment and a lump sum off the chosen first card of 200 quid which is goood... we have also put 300 pound away towards the wedding.... Now the aim for this for myself and OH is to clear our debt in the next 3- 4 years and then look at starting a family and buying a family size house.... Ive given all my credit cards to my mum so that i can only pay them and not use them my will power can drop and im easily swayed ! so i thought it was a wise move.... Ive requested more unsocial hours at work following my annual leave so hopefully that will boost the income by another couple of hundred....... which can go straight on the debt woo hoo... and hopefully by eary next year we will have both our bank claims back yay which will be used to clear debt so anyway thats enough :T :A

Hi Amy - and Jon
Good luck with this and the wedding. One thing i would say about savings (but not including the wedding) is that you should keep a little for emergencies, but unless the interest you are getting on the savings account is higher than the APR of your debts, then you are actually losing out by paying interest that you shouldn't need to. I can understand that the wedding is a priority so saving for that is allowedAfter falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Haha the saving isnt for saving its to help us pay off the secured debt by the time we have paid all other debts so we will be well and truely debt free hehe... there is a method in my madness once the wedding is done we will be paying loads on debt and getting it down down down.... we were trying to think of a way to ask for money without sounding cheeeky
tbh we dont need loads of housey things and im happy to do without till we are off the ladder  so i was thinking that we could just put it on debts and help get it down and just buy a few things for the house if needed.... is there a way around this if we could find a place that did vouchers that you could return for money we would be ok lol !
Id be overly embarrassed asking straight out for money .... eeeek ..... thanks for writing on my diary George

Don't be embarrassed about asking for money as a wedding gift. It's more common than you think. What's embarrassing is when you receive baby clothes when they are not needed...After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Hi Amy!
I think a diary is the best, I started one a couple of days ago but really need to make sure I keep shouting at myself on it!
You should maybe have a lot of the challenges sticky at the top as these can be real motivators! I'm doing the 1k summer challenge which benbenandme started and its really spurring me on.
Best of luck.

Hi amyandjon, good luck with your road to debt free happiness. Remember not to cut out all of those little treats otherwise it'll be harder for you to stick with it in the long run. Hopefully the diary will help - I'm sure you'll get lots of support.
Provided you're both committed to your debt free journey, you should have no problems.
I'll look forward to reading more of your entries in due course.
Good luck...0 -
