We have an unused chimney. in the centre of teh house, was used for the 1970 air heating sytem. It was replaced in the 90s.

That left a space that was a big square that was not in use. So the DW marked up on the kitchen side what we could remove, so to make a home for a fridge freezer.

After doing the usual thing, checking was not a supporting wall. I went at it with lump happer and brick chisel. Smashing and pulverising bricks..

After 1/2 a day all was cleared out, and I was happy as larry.

it turns out she wanted the bricks, that was now dusk and rubble.....

I now have to be supervised

    I'm having a dilemma.

I'd half decided to buy a cheap holiday for OH's 50th at the end of October.

I've found free flights plus taxes (so £37 each) into Girona and then either 5 or 6 nights staying down the Costa Brava. Accommodation ranges from £72 each (s/c) to £130 each (all inclusive) on my short list of cheap but good reviewed places, plus a transfer which is about £14 each.

The dilemma is - either pay for it all as his present - it will therefore cost me twice as much (£220 upwards) but it is a 'big' birthday being one ending in an '0'.

    OR

as he smokes and will probably have run out by October (he got a haul when we went to Spain in March) I say - how do you fancy 5 or 6 night in Spain for around £120 and you can get your cigarettes??

And then - 5 nights or 6? I've booked the time off work today so that's that part sorted. 5 nights in a resort we went to 3 years ago self catering for £104 each, or 5 nights all inclusive on the beach in an 'ok' hotel for £140 each. Or £110 for half board!!! aarrgghh!!

There is also the problem that I prefer s/c but every night we go out and OH takes forever to choose a bar and somewhere to eat. When we went to Amsterdam he took so long the only food left was late nightkebabs and we end up squabbling because he 'doesn't like the look' of so many places. This makes h/b or AI better as it keeps him quiet but we were both bored of the same restaurant night in night out last time and if he 'doesn't like the look' of the bar at the AI place.........

I think I'll send him a text. I don't want to miss out on the free flights.

BB - i'd go for SC, but take control and plan where you're going in the daytime and book places/times each day for later that evening..... tell him it's booked for nine o'clock, but actually book it for half nine...

Plus you can cook for him too, which would be lovely... since you are a gastro babe!

be assertive and strong and make him think it's all his idea.... lol

SC is better half board can get a bit samey.... and i hate having to get up early for breakfast, i'd rather lie in and go for brunch!

that's part of it for me though - HB or AI is a break from cooking/washing up etc 7 days a week!!

I've sent a text and worded it as if it's a great opportunity for him to get cigarettes

We have been HB for the last 3 times because when we go SC it's a bit of a nightmare but I get bored of the same place every night and Ihave to say I think OH did as well this time - he hates being tied to anything with time constraints.

The AI is an amazing deal - but I don't drink beer so I'd only be on the local spirits (ie cheap wine or vodka and mixer, I don't drink brandy or whisky) which is fine, but even when we go HB we get a big bottle of San Miguel for a couple of euros and a euro carton of wine for me to have in the room as well as buying big 5 litre bottles of water for the room.

When we are out with our friends we both drink like fish but out together we don't drink much which is weird which makes SC even more attractive.

Price wise, the difference is about £30 between SC and AI and we would spend more than that on food and drink if we went SC, but SC does give the freedom of choice. (well, once his highness has turned his nose up at a few places first! :rotfl: )

BB, I got lost after the first couple of options!

I would go AI with a sunlounger and a book! My OH does what yours does and takes forever to choose somewhere to eat. Its usually midnight before we sit down to eat!!

the wierdest thing about that post is that there is a website called sleepinginairports.com!

    how bizarre!!

SC is the way to go but don't do too much cooking... plus does the SC place have links to a hotel for entertainment/pool etc... best of both worlds.... i'm so jealous! I'm having a holiday in the sun next year, if it kills me!!

well basically it's SC, cheaper and more freedom but I still do washing up etc and OH is a pain choosing where to eat

    OR

its AI, probably cheaper in the long run over the whole holiday and I don't have to cook, BUT it is very restrictive and a loss if the food/bar is pants and we still end up going out.

I get a bit bored just sitting around, I don't like to be rushing around but I do like to at least get out and have a wander even if it's for an hour, but OH just takes ages sorting himself out and by then its about 3pm and he wonders why I'm getting frustrated! 'I'll just finish this chapter.....now I need a cigarette..........ok the next chapter.......I need to get changed.....'

    ARGHHHHHHH!

ok, maybe I change tack altogether

Who fancies 5 nights in Spain in late October with me self catering for £110!!!!! :rotfl:

(must be able to choose bars quickly!)
