I find meal planning is the real key to stop overspending.
Me too. But i plan some flexibility in to mine.
E.g. I work out what we want to eat for a bout ten days, but know i can easily make this at least a fortnight with some storecupboard basics if i want to, or allow for a surprise invitation out, or a night i am simply not keen on the idea of cooking.
Couped with a freezer for some things, including bread and milk, i get my supermarket shopping down to a minimum, which means less temptation to try new things, or extra things.0 -

£30 sounds like a result to me, and thanks will go look at ratrations, our wee ratties love cooked plain pasta - 2 packs for 30p from Tesco, shich supplements their diet very cheaply.0 -

Hi all, I am Mum to my gorgeous 10 year old son. I have a wonderful partner and a mad Jack Russell Terrier who we all adore.
I work full time, which doesn't leave me alot of spare time. I've recently became interested in my money and where it is going. I love the old War Time Make Do and Mend mentally and think the world would be a much better place if everyone thought like that.
I'm 38 this year and realised that I don't know how to cook much, I have no idea about finances etc and figured it was time to change that. I have a scrap book and each year I write 'What I did next' and write all around everything I want to achieve in that year. Surprisingly it works and I achieve 90% of themThis year I wanted to be more frugal and learn to make healthy but tasty meals, so here I am
Nice to meet you all.

Hello, I'm Heather, I'm about to turn 60 and fairly recently downsized. I'm still adjusting to my frugal, rural life. I've been reading oldstyle for a long time now and have finally registered.
I'd just like to say thank you to all who contribute. You have all been an inspiration to me.

Hi Corrag and Heather and welcome, you will enjoy it here I am sure in spite of the few lunatics!
Lots of luck with the frugality, there is soooo much help here.

Hi everyone, Newbie here!
My name is Val and I have just taken early retirement from work - best decision I've made in a while!
Currently in the process of downsizing to a smaller house (to save money of course) so life is a bit hectic this week.
I live with my gorgeous hubby and 21 yr old son. I also have a married daughter and a gorgeous grandson who is 6.
Looking forward to chatting with everyone and swapping tips & ideas.

Hello
I was a member a few years ago but I've lost all my account details so thought instead of faffing about searching through emails etc I would start afresh!
My name is Emma, I am a mummy to Jack who is 6yrs old.. wife and domestic slave to Shane for 14yrs ..
Not got lots of money so I try to scrimp and save at every opportunity....When I'm not at home I can usually be found lurking in the reduced Aisle in Mr T's .0 -
Hello,
I work full-time and live in a rented one bedroom flat in West London. After a difficult year or so financially, things are starting to ease up now for me and my boyfriend (who I live with).
Being forced to live more frugally out of necessity opened my eyes to the amount of waste and needless spending that is prevalent in today's society.
Even though we have disposable income now, I'd like to keep up the old style money saving so that we can start joint savings towards the big three (marriage, house and children), which I hope the future has in-store for us.
I love cooking from scratch and have recently treated myself to a Kenwood Chef, which is already one of my best ever purchases.
Anyway, I'm typically more of a lurker on forums, but I hope to become more and more active. I've loved all of the tips I've picked up so far and OS has become part of my daily reading over the past month or so.
Everyone here seems so friendly and helpful so I'm pleased to be joining the community.
Thanks all!0
