Hi, I've just made a start dealing with my debt, I'm going to keep a dfw diary of what I do, got a long way to go. I'm pretty old style myself so I thought this would be a good board, What can I tell you all about me. I am family orientated, I'm married with 2 grown up sons, a daughter in law, a grandaughter plus I see a lot of my parents. I work full time in a resturant, my free time is spent doing housework, shopping, watching tv and reading. :) x

Welcome Coppers! Hope you enjoy the ride...:)
Even when you feel like you have nothing, someone else has far less. Find them and help them. You’ll see why.....

  • I'm new, I'll introduce myself. :)
I have read posts here for a while, mostly since I've moved out away from my family to go to uni. I'm in Leeds now, studying geology and physics and I love it! I love being a student and I love the independance that comes with it. I really don't want to be wasteful with money though, which I guess comes from the fact that my family aren't particularly well-off either. I enjoy cooking and I'm interested in finding good, cheap foods. My main goal really, I guess is to get through uni with as little debt as possible.

I'm a mom of 2, a 4 yr old boy and 1 yr old girl, currently on career break until 2013. My hubby is self-employed with his own Indian restaurant And takeaway, unfortunately it's not doing too well at the moment so we really need to look at how we can save money.

We have a lot of visitors and while this is nice, it is quite draining on the finances. 2-3 times a week we have at least 2 extra mouths to feed and most of it unexpected. I have to compensate for this by shopping extra 'just in case so-and-so comes'.

But I think it's just not about saving, I'm here to learn new (or old ;)) skills that I can pass onto the kids. Before I got married, I didn't cook or clean, I didn't wash my own clothes, change my own duvet cover, basically I knew nothing. And I had to learn the hard way. No one to teach me so now I want my children to know. And before they know I have to know. So here I am :)
You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel

Hello everyone I am a single Mum to a 14yr old boy. I work shifts and support people with learning disablities.
I love this forum since finding it! It has helped alot already. I have managed to save money on my shopping
and stop chucking so much food away. I have put the water on a meter and that has brought the monthly
payments down . Also changed electric/gas suppiers. I generally have found alot of useful information all
in one place and am very grateful to everyone who posts.:D

  • We ll I have been glued to this forum for some time now especially since becoming a single parent with a 4 & 2 year old.
I work full time and am a Ward Sister in a busy NHS hospital! Still mange to have a pot of tea in the evening and browse for the top tips and so far I have gained a good few tips!
My Parents were children in the war and so was brought up to count the pennies and not throw good food away, cook from scratch so had some good lessons in OS but got lazy but am back to it.
Am currently looking for ideas for homemade xmas pressies, already got my Jams and Chutneys made so am half way there.
I have to say OS is my secret pleasure and my day is not complete without a quick mooch through the posts, now it is time to contribute!:j

Welcome Clare :) Have you had a look at Martin's Old Style book, Thrifty Ways for Modern Days? There are lots of ideas for gifts in there :)
