  • I am a mum to 2 boys, 1 not at home anymore :( who is 20 and 1 who is 18. I work full time, for "Scotland's Airline" and am ground staff working 12 hour shifts, 4 on, 4 off, for the moment.
I also have a hubby, who works for the same company I do and we also do the same shifts  (we work for different bits)
I own a polytunnel and grow what the climate here will allow (not too warm in the middle of the North Sea) and from being on here, I am starting to become tight, really tight :j

Hi, I'm 31, disabled, mum of 2 (12 &10) and I'm married. We live in a rented house in East Lancs. I love knitting and reading. I do a bit of sewing, but my hubby actually does more. He's busy making me some door curtains to try and keep the house warm at the moment. :T He's my carer too and I'd be lost without him. As I can't work and he is my carer we're on benefits and the money just doesn't stretch as far as it used too. I don't have any credit cards or loans, but do have a small overdraft that I want to get rid of.
I'm learning lots on here, so hopefully it won't take too long.
    Thanks.

Hi, I am 52, work part time and am married with two children who are at Uni. I am trying to become more OS, I am lucky as I have no debts and some savings, but have become aware over the last couple of years of buying clothes, toiletries etc that I don't need which only results in clutter. I have decided the best way forward for me is to stop buying clothes until I need to and to set a small monthly budget for all non essential things. If I have spend all my budget, that is it.

I love knitting, reading and dabbling in other crafts.

Nice to meet you both. I hear you on buying clutter, Caramac - wishing you well with that monthly budget.

I guess I better say hello...

I came in to find an answer about something... ended up switching my electricity supplier on the home page and have replied to two threads allready ...

I live in a farm cottage surrounded by fields where last year the water pipes froze for 2 weeks ....

I live with my partner a farm worker and my two girls (5 & 18)

We have £40k on a debt management plan with CCCS from my partners previous marriage.

We have an endless supply of veg and wood for our wood burner but as farm workers still struggle like everybody else.

We live 6 miles from the nearest shop so to run out of milk is an expensive experience.

I make my own bread and I work from home promoting the farms eco fuel and rapeseed oil.

Hello everybody, you'll probably catch me on here very early as harvesting usually starts about 4am !! Our harvest is back to front we're busiest over winter not summer (Veg)

We were moved 100 miles away from our families over a year ago now due to my ex causing us problems and we were put under police watch and had a panic alarm.. in 12 days time I have the final hearing in a contact case, my ex hasnt been allowed to see my 5 year old for 2 years now...

  • Hi all, I am 55 married with three grown up children , two with children and live not to far away and one in Australia. I have been dipping in and out of this forum for years but admit didn't do much, was so down with always living in debt and low income I just couldn't pull myself out. We rent our home on Merseyside and hubby works now part-time, firm trying to stay afloat cut all full-time down about 4 years ago so any extra hours available he takes but cannot be relied on. In the summer we inherited £22k and that cleared all our debts, paid off our car - bought it 4 years ago when I was awarded DLA not had one since oldest son was a baby and he is 31 ( but sadly it was losing my lovely MIL that gave us this). Now we are debt free I am determined as I have been given the chance of a clean slate not to let debts build up again. We are back to square one with no money in the bank but I know by following the wonderful advice by everyone on here we can stay . solvent. I sadly cannot work and spend a lot of time in bed so going to try and do what I can from it. We also have to save up to go to our oldest son, in Australia wedding in March 2014 , not sure if I will be able to make it but have to try. One thing I have invested in is tools to help me grow vegetables in the garden - done so in pots but now going to use ground, with no dig method, if I can just get out there say twice a week for a hour a time I should be able to do so and that should help our budget. At the moment I have all sorts under fleeces ready to be harvested I hope by end of November, that is if grass has not killed them off as it does need weeding but not been able to get out there for over a week, but maybe tomorrow :))

You are all so knowledgeable its wonderful. Thank you all for sharing so much.
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

  • Hello! Am a newbie who's been lurking for a couple of weeks - after recieving today's gas & elec bill decided to just get on with it, register, and be OS!

I'm unemployed at the moment (though desperately looking for work), luckily have an OH in a decent job, so I consider myself a bit of a thrifty homemaker right now so we can keep saving for a future deposit on a house and future kids (we rent just now)

With a lot of time on my hands, I knit, crochet, bake, cook, clean, but I want to keep costs low which is why I've joined on here for advice!
