I've just registered on this site although I've been browsing and mooching around it for a few months, off and on. But I've decided that now I REALLY have to take the whole money-saving thing seriously and try to make some significant changes in my life.
I'm in my mid 40s, and work full-time as a fundraiser for a fabulous arts organisation. I love my job, which often takes up a lot of my time. I live and work in Edinburgh (can walk to work, although regularly take the bus - yes, I realise this is a saving I could make, perhaps that will be next week's challenge). And at weekends I live with my boyfriend who has a house in beautiful countryside about 30 miles away. My biggest challenge currently is being organised enough so that I have supplies in my flat in Edinburgh so that when I come home, tired, hungry and grumpy from a day in the office I can create a tasty, cheap meal quickly.
In my spare time I like being a domestic goddess - I love to cook meals from scratch and try out new recipes. And I particularly like making soup (which can be as cheap as anything! Yay!). We have a garden at my boyfriends and we intend to grow lots of vegetables for the coming year, which I'm really looking forward to. I'd love chickens, but he's put his foot down as he knows that he would have to do the lion share of looking after them.
I prefer to shop at local shops, and we have a great butcher in the village near my boyfriend, as well as a good farmshop (with farmers market once a month).
Oh, and I have a cat (called Miso) and he has 3 dogs.
Looking forward to reading more money saving tips from everyone.Grocery Challenge

I'm a self employed graphic designer, I have my own client base (always looking for more though if anybody's interested) and i also freelance in large companies through temp agencies.
I'm 38, married with no kids but 3 cats (cats seem to think I work from home purely for their benefit) not really ever grown up up completely I still like going to gigs preferably heavy rock:beer: (hate the term heavy metal) and spend most of my summer weekends camp in field as DH and I do historical re-enacting.0 -
Hi
I am 38, married with no kids unless two daft Jack Russells count! We live in north east england.
Me and the OH work full time. My job is half home based and half travelling around the UK.
In the last 6 months we have seen our income drop by £1000 due to cuts in my OH overtime and bonuses and me changing jobs. We have quite a bit of debt and are finally getting our heads out of the sand and dealing with it.
Nice to meet you all

Hi - I'm a newbie. I'm a 32 year old SAHM to a boy of 3 and a girl of 8 months. In my previous life, I was a PA but took voluntary redundancy in April. I'm planning on trying to stay at home until school beckons, but I'm not certain I can convince DH to be frugal enough until then:mad:
I love cooking and baking from scratch - made bread this week so will look into merits of investing in a breadmaker.
Looking forward to reading posts and contributing back and getting to know you all!Wannabe Debt Reducing Machine

Hi I'm really a not so newbie but have had to rejoin with a slightly different name after having problems with my sign in for some reason.
I'm 51 married with two grown up children and one GD. I look after my 2 year old GD a couple of days a week while my DD goes to work (which I love doing). I also do the book work for my DH who is self employed.
I love all of this site but am finding myself addicted to the OS forum. I recently bought a Remoska oven so love all the ideas and tips on that thread.0 -
Hi there, I'm Goochie and I have been avidly reading this site for some time but along with many others have been too shy to post (not sure why!).
I am 37 years old, happily married for 15 years and have a dog. I love cooking so picking up lots of tips and am determined that next year (after the christmas expenses), we will get our finances in order.
Thanks to all who post great advice on this site. :T0
