Picked up this jumbo chocolate bar from Trongate, Glasgow (another by E. Wedel) which is the Polish version of KitKat*, "WW". 235g.

*Maybe not exactly like KitKat as this review says it is "chocolate with hazelnut wafer" :D Can't wait to try! https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fmilosniczka-slodyczy.blogspot.co.uk%2F2014%2F08%2Fewedel-ww-czekolada-mleczna-z-wafelkami.html&edit-text=

And in additional £1shop news, apparently Poundland are buying 99p Stores. Think my nearest is in Hamilton so it's not a store I go in often! http://news.sky.com/story/1541253/poundlands-99p-stores-takeover-gets-go-ahead

Currently enjoying the new series of Poundshop Wars on BBC (about Poundworld) :D

Edit: I really liked WW, lovely chocolate, will buy it again :)
  • I'm enjoying that series too LouLou, I couldn't find anyone else who watched it. I think it's been really well done. Stroke of genius having Caroline Aherne narrate it, although strictly speaking it should perhaps have been Sue Johnson, after her Poundland spending sprees in The Royle Family.

  • thanks for a good deal

Saw these in Poundland earlier (not my pic, but the webpage I got this .jpg from had them advertised at £7.99!). 40 hour candles, apparently.

They also have IBA Gel air fresheners too (this was Argyle Street, Glasgow).

...just realised I got a reply from Poundland on Facebook (I asked whether their online store has any promo codes or specials as they're new): "Hi Louise, at the end of the checkout there is a scratch card, this is a chance for you to win some prizes. Happy shopping :) Regards, Rachel."

What do MSErs think about the leaky Rubicon can conundrum that's appeared on the Poundland FB page?

Just a word of warning about Poundland online service.

The courier they have signed up with is YODEL.

Says here that they're using Hermes? https://www.facebook.com/Poundland/posts/10156081908090397

Though not sure if they're any better as they both use self-employed delivery drivers. As I live in a city centre I haven't had any courier issues of note, but I have been given the runaround when staying at my boyfriend's place up in the Highlands a few times (local couriers in rural areas are more erratic, I'm guessing).

    My thoughts?
How come the can didn't leak when it was placed in the shopping basket, but leaked catastrophically once in with valuable items?
Surely the purchaser didn't have it upright going all the way around the store? It doesn't ring true.
I've bought Rubicon and never noticed that the cans were in any way flimsy.

I hate the whole compensation culture that's around nowadays - it just turns people into big babies who refuse to be accountable for simple mistakes and blame big companies instead. Even better if there's a few extra £s to be made.

Haven't we all had leaky items after going out shopping? A few times I've been caught out with a leak in a plastic milk carton (which is why I always run my fingers along the base before I buy - the subtle damage tends not to be easily visible). I can't remember ever having a major calamity, other than wiping/rinsing a few damp items that were in the plastic bag...and there is much more liquid in those - 2 litres! Sometimes they leak out the top, even with the plastic screw top and pull-off strip firmly on.

It's common sense to be careful putting any liquid item in amongst your shopping/personal belongings, no matter how intact it may seem.

Maybe the buyer has bought the can in a rush and put it in his bag within seconds. No damage, leaking liquid on the shelf? He may have walked around the store with the can in a basket/trolley, put his can on a conveyer belt - no leaks? Also the dent in the side of the can is quite noticeable, surely your fingers would feel it? I wrap mine all the way around a drinks can.

I assume the sign you see in many shops "Please check your change before leaving as the company is not liable for mistakes once you've left the shop" also applies to items which may damage your belongings.

Edit: Boyf has also pointed out, as the dent in the can is halfway down (and likely with less mls inside), surely the can would have felt a tad lighter?
...The FB complaints seem to be gone now (he complained on various places)

*Sorry for the slight rant, those posts on FB annoy me!
  • I had to take my passport out with me today so I wrapped it up in a strong plastic bag before putting it in my handbag - I'm paranoid it will get something spilled on it.

If this chaps art is so very important and priceless he should maybe buy a durable folder to keep it in?
