Hello,
I've been an AOL customer for nearly 5 years. Never had a prob with them until recently when i had to deal with there awful customer services representitives.
Basically my 18m contract for my broadband recently ended - which means i'd now be just paying for my bb month by month with no contract in place (great!). Well, AOL called me up and asked if i'd like their new bb offer (same speed as i'm getting but lower cost - with no contract) Fantastic i thought, since i didn't want to be tied down to them for another year or so.
....They lied to me as i recieved an email saying that the offer would require me to enter into an 18m contract!! Obv i cancelled the order, and the customer services representitive i spoke to this time said he could put me on an even better deal with no contract since i'd been a loyal customer (great, i thought).
LIED to AGAIN! Got an email again saying with that offer i'd need to enter in to an 18m contract.
This time i called up and complained - I ordered them to put me back on my old plan so i could just continue paying month by month. Thank goodness the woman i spoke to said she'd do this for me and "of course there would be no contract" as i'd be "back on my old plan and out of contract".
GUESS WHAT - LIES!! I recieve a letter this time saying they had accepted my offer to enter into a new contract (for one of the deals i had previously cancelled!).
I called them again to tell them to give me a MAC code as i wasn't staying with a company who try to con me. The guy said I was already under contract (for a competely different offer than it states in the letter i got!) Then he tells me i have to pay £119 cancellation fee if i want to go with another company!!! I explained the whole situation and was told i would not have to pay the cancellation fee after all and would recieve the MAC code in 5 days.
All I can say is - WELL WE SHALL SEE!!! I doubt very much I will recieve the code in 5 days. Then i reckon they'll also send me the cancellation bill (for a contract i never even signed up to!).
Anyone else had a bad experience with AOL?????

There is no need for them to wait 5 days to give you the MAC code... it can be generated immediately...
You don't even wanna know what we used to joke that AOL really stood for in my last job
Write a log of what conversations you've had and if possible who it was with... Then if they try to bill you put it in writing and copy in the industry watchdogDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
I faced the same.last Aug at the end of my contract I phoned them to cancel my aol as I wanted to go to sky package. The guy told me that he will put me on higher MB and at £ 17.99.He said try it for 3 months and if you don't like it then you can disconnect. After 3 months when I phoned them again they said well you are on 12 months contract. When I protested they said that nothing xcan be done and further phones made no difference. After 1 year now I will be contacting them soon to get rid of it.0
