I have recently written to 3 - mobile phone company - complaining how their account shows on my credit file. I recieved a letter back and i responded but I havent heard anything back and its been about a month. Who do I complain to now would it be the financial ombudsman?

Persumably you are talking about your credit report?
Thats handled by the likes of Experian (credit check companies which hold history of your credit).
If you have been in debit to Three, your report will show that - nothing Three can do to remove your credit history.
And its also natural for companies to appear on credit reports if you deal with them, they will do a credit check on you and that "check" itself is logged by the credit check company.

Yes I meant my credit report. The reason im wanting to complain is that my account says satisfactory and it should say settled as the balance was paid about two years ago.

The history of the record of any debit will be held by the credit company (I dont know what the time limit is), but historical data is there to be kept, you might want to chase up the credit company and ask them for advice - possibly of course someone on this forum willl have better ideas then me.

Just pulled this from Yahoo Answers pages - someone had replied to similar question

Without details, it's hard to know what problems you are having specifically...here is my advice:
    1. Pull your credit report from all three bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian).
    2. Go over the report and look for errors.
    3. Also look at your account history. Figure out which ones are collections, charge-offs, etc.
    4. Look at your current accounts and see how many late payments you've made in the past couple years.
    5. Clear up the collections and charge-offs. Make payment arrangements, settle or pay the balance in full.
    6. Start making on-time payments with your other accounts. If you are financially stretched, call those companies and try to make arrangements for partial payment for a period of time or something like that.

The balance is £0, and it has been closed for about 2 years, Its the first time ive ever got a credit report so didtnt know about it until now.

Does the financial ombudsman deal with complains about mobile phone companies?

Not really as I say your credit history is recorded by companies like Experian and Equifax - if you feel there is something wrong with your credit history then you need to talk to these companies.

If the information is correct then the bad credit history will be kept by those companies - for the simple reason it gets used by other companies to determine if they want to deal with you or not. I cant see what Three (from what you have said so far) have done wrong?

If you are disputing the item on your credit file you can raise this with whoever you got the credit file from, they should then contact 3.

My old three account shows on my credit file as a search likewise my other old and current mobile providers show on my credit file as it's normal if the company does a credit search on you.

However the problem I had with Three is that they recorded 2 searches both at a wrong address on my file.

If the search contains wrong information then you should do a Data Subject Access Request for all your records. Three should then contact you on the telephone and ask exactly what information you want. You may be first contacted by someone at an Indian call centre. If you are tell them to read your letter and send the information you request. They can't read your letter because they don't have it, but they will give you wrong information about the law. So tell them to go away and send the information you want instead of wasting your time.

Then a few days after this you should be contacted by someone at their head office who you should ask them to correct your file. They do this because it's a hassle for them to provide you with your records.

    More information is here:
    http://www.ico.gov.uk

Their template letter isn't very good. You should add into it:
    1. That you want all the information the company has on you.
    2. By law they have 40 days in which to provide the information.
    3. Information about who you are so include your account number, mobile phone number, full name, full address and phone number.

    Three's Data Registrars address:
    HUTCHISON 3G UK LIMITED
    HUTCHISON HOUSE
    5 HESTER ROAD
    BATTERSEA
    LONDON
    SW11 4AN

You need to send your letter via recorded delivery (in case you have to complete a complaint form if Three doesn't respond). You can do this online but you will need to scan in your recorded delivery slip.

The fee for a Data Subject Access Request is £10 but Three may not ask for like they did with me.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
