Your Dream/Ultimate PC?

I'm having trouble deciding on components (most likely nvidia 790i Ultra chipset is about as definite as I've got and that's not really definite) for my next pc. So out of interest what would your dream PC be (be as specific as you want about components and then I'll plaguarise your ideas ;)). Water cooling, case modding, no money limit..... anything goes. I'm just interested in what people's preferences and ideas are. Be as fanciful as you like.

Yes the striker 2 extreme is actually one of my possible options :rotfl: . Still at saving up stage at the moment (obviously  ). I think the main thing is the motherboard choice really as I can always get lower spec cpu, ram, gpu etc and upgrade those in the future (whenever I don't feel like eating or living in a house for a month or so ;) ).

I am seriously thinking of water cooling (not really that extravagant, I used to use liquid nitrogen for vacuum pumps in research so at least I'm not going down that route!!!) which I think should be easier with the Asus board. At least I'm not considering EVGA's options with inbuilt water blocks: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=800998 (how's that for price!!!!).

I've been looking at this settup for a good few months now, still out of my price range though

I'm always about 3 to 4 years behind when it comes to hardware, but you can still get good performance for the price. Also if you get the right kit you can upgrade and it should last untill the next generation of hardware comes out.........

Maybe if I win the lottery tonight eh.........

Well my current pc is NForce 2 motherboard and Athlon XP 1800..... so I've really let things slip so it's definitely a build from scratch job. And I definitely want to go for the high end of things. It's embarrassing being a developer in a company and every other employee has a home PC about five years newer and five times more expensive than yours. We're all into games and while they're talking about difference in high frame rates between XP and Vista for Crysis, all I can say is I just about get Half Life 2 to run on low settings. Think my current graphics card is about ready to give up and is slowly losing it's mental facalties (GeForce FX5700).

This looks like a nice bit of kit keeping with the Asus theme....................

    http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.php?/cpu_mainboard/asus_crosshair_ii_am2_motherboard/1

Its got some good features, including onboard graphics, meaning you can still use it while you save up for 3 graphics cards..........:D

    Not bad price either.

I did think about that a while ago, but I think I'm going to stick with Intel chips for this next PC. (I think AMD have kind of lost it a bit this last year or so).

With e8500 and q6600 under £120 its a tough call. I don't think many games can use 4 cores ... but I'm not a gamer.
E8500 will o/c 4ghz on air cooling -3.6 on standard volts in one test.
q6600 usually can do upto 3.6 ghz on air

Since you ask, one of THESE - with 2 quad-core Intel Zeon "Harpertown" 3.2 GHz processors, 32 GB of RAM, an nVidea Quadro FX 5600 graphics card and twin Apple 30" monitors.
    :xmastree: :EasterBun :bdaycake:

(This does qualify as a PC because it can run Windows natively - some would say paganly - if, as Steve Jobs put it, you would actually want to. :D )

    Well, you did ask. :)

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
