I guess it depends on how much needs doing, how much you enjoy it, how much he can afford and how much you need money.

I wouldn't charge my parents anything for helping them out because I couldn't afford to make all the backpayments required to repay them for raising and feeding me for 16 years LOL:rotfl: I would explain my financial situation, however, and leave it up to them to make a 'regular donation' to a good cause!

If everyone is comfortable with the arrangement I can't see the problem with her charging her Dad. I know my parents would be highly uncomfortable with me doing things for them and them not paying the general going rate. It means they feel they can't ask again because the think it looks like they're taking advantage if it's a freebie.

i am with aussielass, i cleaned for my grandfather while dh took him shopping and a short run in the car to give me time to clean, the least i could do to repay all the love i got, and we could have done with extra money too, but everyone is different and rightly so

I don't think you should charge him even if he can afford it.
Hes your dad how much did he spend on bringing you up.
He could give you a bit extra on birthdays and Christmas if he wants but I feel charging him is wrong (IMO)

But look at it this way. What if it was anything other than cleaning? DH's uncle runs a company and employs his daughter and one of his sons. Same thing, really. Cleaning is a job just like labouring or doing admin. It takes time, effort and skill. If Mrs A wasn't working for her father, she'd be working somewhere else and he'd have to employ someone else. This way they get to see more of each other and the money stays in the family.

If he got a cleaner in from an agency he would pay £10+ph. I think £6-£7ph is fair!

I dont think its morally wrong. If the OP didnt do it, he would have to pay someone else to come in. I pay my SIL £7ph for helping out with ironing and other bits around the house and know she would do for love etc, but at the end of the day she is providing me with a regular weekly service of which one would normally be charged alot more for IYSWIM. She still needs to earn money.

I hope it works out well for you. Remember though, that dealing with family can sometimes get quite tricky:rolleyes: ;):D
