Sorry but I think theres more to it than that - I had a lovely cleaner who I treated extremely well and paid good money and she still robbed me blind.0

Hiya
Laminating was done by OH-he has a little machine thingy.
I wouldnt offer lunch either but as shes a friend of a friend and we are eating a sarnie etc (OH & I)-dont mind offering, she doesnt always take up the offer, but is normally on a cheese/ham toastie etc.
You do need to be precise/specific with what jobs you want doing and remember your the boss so you decide-not them. Some cleaners can be pushy, but if you list jobs etc nothing needs to be discussed as such regarding the cleaner-you want doing whats on the list. It will take a couple of weeks for them to get into a routine, so remember the list of jobs may seem alot but once they have gotten on top of them-it will be easier-so dont let them bully you into thinking that the job list is very long and it will take more time  I had a cleaning agency coem round and asked them how long they thought the list would tAke to do and she said about 2.5hrs so I knew 3hrs was plenty of time for the private cleaner
and they will know as thats there bread and butter being a cleaning company an all...lol
When doing my list I looked at each room and worked from top to bottom IYKWIM. Coving, inside windows, blinds, polishing, new bedding, skirting, hovering/floors etc. Kitchen was sides, windows, tiles wiped and buffed, cupboard fronts, kickboard, DW, microwave, fridge freezer fronts, all sides, all bits on side, pictures, lights etc etc. I looked at it basically that this would be the only clean each week so I wanted everything done properly and thoroughly, thats why i put all jobs even tedious ones down as I didnt want to be doing them
OH & I normally do a 20min blitz daily and this is more than enough to keep on top of it all. It is annoying as I love housework and find it a good stress buster, but do as much as I can. I am quite an organised/tidy person and hate clutter.
Many cleaners will not tidy
Good Luck

I have had a cleaner who stole from me too and it was very unpleasant experience thats why I was looking for your advice. Thank you Penny Pincher that is very comprehensive. I would always treat a fellow human being with respect in fact if they do a good job I will treat them with awe!

Really good advice from Penny Pincher- wish I had read it when I had a cleaner. My advice would be be specific - tell them at the very beginning what needs doing and if you want any thing done specifically, tell them how you like it. Secondly, get a recommendation from a friend if at all possible - especially if you won't be in when they clean. Finally, I think you often have to try a couple of cleaners before you find one you really like, but when you do, it really makes life easier if you are working long hours.0

When I had a cleaner (i was studying for an exam at the time) I paid a cleaning company £10 per hour, they had the benefit of insurance etc. Then I took on a s/e cleaner who I paid £7 cash per hour.
There was another thread about this but I cant remember if it was on here or the DFW board - try a search.0 -

I don't think I could have charged my dad to clean his place. I would do it for free.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.
