I'm in severe debt and I work in a bank!!!

Whilst you are at risk from the banks point of view, take some comfort that alot of people who work in banks/insurance companies are in the same boat as you are, if the banks/financial institutions got rid of all there employees with debt, they would be very few left. Banks and financial institutions are going to have to rethink that clause in the terms and conditions, I can only see peoples debt getting worse in the current climate and that isn't going to change anytime soon."Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does, except wrinkles. It's true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place." — Abigail Van Buren0

I dont want to put a downer on it but everyone is saying its fine etc when it isnt always.
I had a friend that got a new job in a major bank, they interviewed him etc, gave him a start date, let him hand in his notice to his old job and then a week before he started they turned round and told him the offer was withdrawn due to a poor credit history, he had no defaults, ccj's or bankruptcy just a poor payment record.
Sorry not just trying to put a downer on it but letting you know the otherside.Debt Now~Total-£14,366.72~CC-£1,600.00~Sofa-£1,349.01~Loan-£11,417.71

Well I have been offered a role, but head office have told them not to ffer me it, due to me having 3 missed payments on 2 credit cards.
I was honest and upfront about it, however what can I say in my defence,as I am now seriously worried that head office will simply say no, unless I have an amazing explanation.
The reason why it happened is because i was unfortunatley scammed out of several thousands of pounds and this has led to financial difficulties.
I have settled one of the credit cards in question, but the other is extremley clsoe to default stage, and I can't even afford to clear the arrears on that!
If anyone can help me save my career I will really appreciate0 -
hi ya there hon.. I have to be honest that absolutely amazes me, following on from our conversations of the other day. everyone who is everyone has a few late payments!!
I would say tell them the story of what happened, write a letter of explaination if necessary.
use your current career to show that you are not a risk to their compliance, get a report from your compliance officer if possible to and of your complaint record.
Also print out and highlight the FSA regulations on fit and proper persons.
Put a good case together and fight for it hon, that job is yours!!!!!!!!!! xxxxdebt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -

Thanks Pania, do you know how or where I can get the FSA regulations on fit and proper persons?
Secondly they said the reason why they are worried is because it could go on to default stage without notice.
As for compliance and complaints this will all be reflected in the reference checks they do.
I am still very scared, and upset that I will lose this wonderful opportunity, because of this.

FSA requirements fit and proper persons are on line, i'll see if i can find a link, one sec.
Re the compliance and complaints, granted this will form part of the reference but if you get it all together in a pack to show them that you are prepared to fight for it then that may appear in your favour to them.
also suggest to them that you would be happy to comply with a monitoring process, to show them that your fight to get out of debt is an honest one. I have to have the express permission of my company to obtain more credit (not that i want to) and agree to monitoring ever quarter. Also offer to meet their compliance officer face to face. how can a person judge you based on what is on a piece of paper, I met our lady face to face and hell she was scarey, she grilled me big stylee over a letter i had written explaining hte reasons for my poor credit and it bought back a lot of painful memories but she could see that it was for a genuine reason and not being a spendthrift and getting out of control. You seem to have a genuine reason here. This may persuade them that you are serious about the situation. Defaults do not form part of the fit and proper persons. it is CCJ and upwards.
Don't give up hon, i know it's hard, but if this company doesn't take you on then there will always be another that will. big hugs to you. xxxxxxxxxdebt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
