women will invariably view you differently to a man without kids - if a woman wants to travel the world but you can't because of your (honourable) commitment to your son, she'll not stay around long. that's just an example.

Not all women though. Some women (especially slightly older ones) might quite like the idea of a guy with kids - ready made family and you get to avoid the messy, noisy stage :p

Re coucil house: not a chance in most places. They seem to be a safety net these days, but one with massive holes in it. If you're homeless, with a drug problem and you've just come out of prison you might be "lucky" enough to be awarded one. Otherwise, no chance.

I realised that Mavric was joking....it's the sort of thing I say in jest.

As for baggage, well I do see that my children would be seen as baggage by some people and in fact, I do say they are my baggage! It's normal, they are. Baggage can mean a huge amount of different things from having children (a future partner may not like having children around), a bad previous relationship, illnesses, spats with family or a job which requires a lot of working away.

My baggage is my kids and their disabilities mainly because any prospective partner would need to be able to put aside their own wants and needs to help cope with the childrens wants (not financial ones) and needs...oh and the fact that I do also have a failed marriage behind me!

Onto the housing question - afraid even housing associations will almost be a non starter, around here that is all we have and the waiting list is as long as the old council list! It may be best if you scout around (and downsize) for a cheaper rental property and if that is a one bed, well kids are resiliant and adaptable and will accept that to be able to see their dad they may have to compromise on space.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Is this some sort of trolling post? If you are a traindriver then you are earning more than sufficient to afford a 2-bed place through a private landlord. If you post saying you want a council house on your sort of salary then you are either crazy or just trolling. (And please don't tell me you earn very little or can't afford to pay CSA on your wage because I'll just die laughing and insist on knowing which TOC you are with).
