We all have to make our choices and there will always be the "defensive carnivores" who will come up with all sorts of crap to defend theirs.

Don't worry, they will be balanced by the "defensive vegans" who will come up with all sorts of crap to defend theirs.

I do find comfort in the fact that despite the huge food increases of late I am spending less now than I was 18 months ago, we eat very well and eat a decent amount of vegan Junk food ( very comforting!) We both do very little exercise yet we are not overweight our BMI is normal and our cholesterol levels are low:D

Yes, but you still feel the need to justify your way of life in a forum, so there must be something missing from it.

I truely believe that it is no coincidence that a Vegan diet is both healthy and cheap;)

Not convinced it is healthy or cheap, but what I have had of it I can assure you it tastes like sh*t.

If I was going to be a vegan I would just eat sunday dinners without the beef, stuff all the quorn stuff.

The vast majority of people don't think about what they eat or what it costs in terms of suffering, so just as I have to suffer the pain of watching humanity devour innocent animals "because they taste nice", I take comfort in every animal disease that comes along that could ( and can) kill humans:eek:

Yeah right, bse, foot and mouth, blue tongue, they all do wonders for the animals. How can you say you suffer when an animal is killed for food and take delight in animals suffering just so a meat eating human will suffer, or die to.

Next time a human dies from an animal disease I hope it's the paramedic that's down to come and save you when you have a life threatening accident.

The way I see it humans have choice, animals do not.

Of course they do, my mates dog chooses to eat chocolate even though he's been told time and time again that it's not good for him.

The irony of all this is that recently those who couldn't care less about animals and their welfare have at last seen that the whole planet could benefit from not eating meat as it is not a cost effective way of feeding the world, not to mention the methane that adds to global warming !

When was this, I must have missed it!
    guineapig wrote: »
I wonder if people would still find meat so attractive if it was advertised as what it really was?.............................minced pig(sauages) leg of deer ( Venison) ear 'oles eye'oles & ar-- 'oles (burgers, nuggets etc!!!)_

Don't see why not, most of us know that pork comes from pigs, beef comes from cattle etc. And thanks to all the TV programs we all know about the nuggets etc. but it hasn't lowered the sales of those much.

Would you ask your breast feeding friend to spare a drop for your cornflakes?
    NO ?

Did you not see that documentary called "other people's breast milk" that was on not so long ago?
    guineapig wrote: »
why not, it's more natural than drinking the breast milk of another species!

    See above.

Do you eat your own periods? no?

Not personally as I'm a man, but I will admit to tasting a few of my ex-wife's in the past.
    guineapig wrote: »
but you are happy enough to eat a hens period? yes, that's what eggs are!!!

Well, the way I see it, and any woman can correct me on this. A period is "fluid" that flushes the egg from the body, not the actual egg.

It behoves us all to think about what we eat, if you do, then you might find your tastes and desires will change, but no one can make that change other than you and only when you are ready to do so.

I think about what I eat, and I eat meat, there is no way on earth I am going to change that.
    guineapig wrote: »
If you want to find out more, (why it is not crurelty free being veggie) then google " cruelty in the dairy and egg industry" read some of that and then make up your mind!

But I don't care about the cruelty, it tastes nice and that is all I care about.

How come when a film maker films a crocodile dragging a zebra into a river he gets an award for it, but somne bloke kills a little lamb for my dinner and he's a monster!

If you don't think animals should be killed for food then you are on the wrong planet! Half the animals on earth kill other animals for food!!!!!!

Eat what you want it's your life,

No matter how many posts end up in this thread, that is and probably will remain the best thing said in it.

If you have no problem with the death of the male chicks, why on earth are you bothering to be veggie? or even say that you are? if you are trying to bait me you are wasting your time, funnily enough I don't feel the need to justify being vegan, ( the rewards speak for themselves) the irony is the number of people who eat meat/are veggie who feel the need to justify their choices!

Eat what you want it's your life, if you seek to take a life to tickle your taste buds ( in whatever animal form you choose) go ahead.

I was not baiting you in the slightest so I am very sorry to have given that impression. I enjoy arguing in the sense of a healthy debate!

I am a real vegetarian, why assume otherwise? There are many reasons not to eat meat; to be a vegetarian does not require that one believes eating it is wrong! I simply do not agree with animals being kept in restricted spaces and then being subjected to long, hot, dehydrated journeys before being killed (potentially badly). If I could guarantee that they had a good life and were killed instantly I would eat meat. Is that wrong?

I justify my choices to help people (and myself perhaps) understand my reasons for being who I am/doing what I do. I wanted opinions on by-products when I posted on here - that is all!

    Handy thread :)

I've used some of the recipes in the make your own toiletry chapters from Sarah Kramer's cookbooks. Really good books for cooking too!

Has anyone else trid the products of Just Soaps and Body Care? I found them at a Farmers market and they are chemical free and 95% of their products are vegan society approved (sounds like I work for them but I don't - I love their soap).

They have the first soap that doesn't make my skin feel tight and dry after use.

    www.just-soaps.co.uk

It is a Leicestershire based company using local resourses and I think they are great. Soap bars seem much bigger than others too.

Those soaps look good. They're making cold process soaps using nice butters and oils.

I see they're hosting one of Melinda Coss' soapmaking courses, which if you're nearby and can afford it, is well worth doing. Melinda's a lovely lady and had a soap company based in Wales a few years ago. She sold up to move to France, but holds regular courses in the UK.

Oh really??? .............................I found him extremely rude and incessantly boring to the point I gave up reading a quarter of a way through his post YAAAAAAAAWN!

Anyway, back to the main topic of the thread..............if I've remembered it right ..........we use Olive soap, which has been great to date. We also use Faith in Nature for hair products and Jason for showers, haven't seen the 5L tubs so may look out for them to reduce waste. I'd love to change my household over to the soap bar idea, but I live with vain men and it's hard getting them to change, although have got the youngest switched over to Pit Rock now!! :j:j

I've started making my own raw chocolate recently (which just happens to be vegan), and the off shoot of using raw cacao butter and coconut oil is really smooth skin ;) But have just invested in some Dr Hauscka products to help my alcohol/late night parties/snowboarding/aging ravaged face :o

I see that https://www.just-soaps.co.uk are now have 95% of their products registered with the Vegan Society - I love their soaps, they last for ages - don't have any nasty chemicals in, they are a very eco friendly business.
