Past three months we used on average 27 kWh per day.

I took a reading a few days ago, then one today - three days average is 21 kWh per day.

We use to much power

Shirlgirl - I just wonder how it's possible to use that much electricity when there are 2 adults and one baby in the house! Anyway, the clamping has begun!!

It does sound a lot but if you use cloth nappies, tumble dry most of the time, have the tv on all day then these things will make a difference. Our biggest useages are from the tumble dryer, washing machine, dishwasher and cooker. However the fact that we had PCs on 24 x 7 meant that raised the cost (we have 3 desktops in the house and 2 laptops). Maybe an electricity montior would be a wise move just so you can see what is making your useage so high.

I do think our main culprit are many electrical items left on standby and the tumble drier.

I've started monitoring the meter daily. Day 1, we switched off all the stand-by things, and our meter went down from 14 units to 8. Today (day 2), we've been home, had the PCs on and used the tumble drier - it's shot up to 18 units!

I was going to line dry but weathermen promised rain, so I didn't take the chance. Wish I had now, as there has been no rain all day!

That happens all the time. We had the same here but we do have a line in our utility room so the washing got hung in there instead.

19 and 21 so have the games systems, pcs, tvs etc on often 24 hours a day.

We also have bought an electricity monitor. It helps because I can see if a computer etc has been left on without having to keep checking their bedrooms. I can also see if they have the TV and PC on at the same time which I have also banned. .

I have the same problem. What monitor do you have please? I dont quite understand how you can know what they have on at any time but I certainly want to find out more, lol.

Are you telling us that your "stand-by things" were using 6kWh per day? What exactly were these items? That works out at 2190kWh per annum!

Well, it was only one day so probably needs to be monitored over a longer period - we've only really just started doing this (less than a week).

But we switched off the DVD player, Wii, media player, Telewest box, surround sound box, microwave, dishwasher, external hard drives x 2, and a PC - I might have missed something there too!

I can't believe it myself!

We bought this one http://www.eco-eye.com/ the mini version although any monitor will do. We know they have PCs etc on because when they're out we use about 0.3 kwh and when one is in with PC running it goes up to about 0.5 kwh and if TV etc is on it goes up to about 0.8 kwh obviously if they both have PCs, TVs etc on it goes up correspondingly.
