smanfer, very roughly: multiply gas units x 10.8 to give you kwh

Wrong again Kittie as it depends if the meter is imperial or metric. Converters available here.

On our previous statement (April) we were averaging 19.9 units a day

Since making a big effort in the last 3 months we've managed to get it down to 12.7 a day but I would really like to get it down to under 10; that would be very good for us (2 adults at home all day and 2 school age children). Not sure what else we can cut down on though :( Haven't used the tumble dryer for about 3 months now and we're all making a big effort re lights left on, things on stand-by etc......

Well, I've just started a spreadsheet of our electricity and gas consumption - I'm going to read the meters every day!!

We've used 14 units of electricity and 1 unit of gas today. Whereas with the figures Eon gave me yesterday I would have used 49 units of electricity and 66 units of gas. I'm convinced their numbers are wrong now. How can they get it so wrong?

We're still on a mission to reduce our electricity costs. 14 units is still high seeings as neither of us were at home today and we haven't used the cooker tonight.

I am using around 8 a day at the moment for electric and 2 for gas. I`m on leave as its school holidays so someone in for most of the day. 2 teenagers and an 8 year old teenage wannabe with all the usual gadgets. Gas has only been used for hot water as we`ve had bbq`s.

Back in February we were using about 50 units of electricity a day. Now we're averaging between about 12 and 24 depending on what washing etc has been done and how much we're at home. We live in a 4 bed detached heated by gas. We do have electrically heated floors in 2 bathrooms and the kitchen though. We turned the heated floors off a few weeks ago (normally have them on all year). Our cooker is gas hob electric oven.

There are 4 adults and 2 LOs in the house though. 2 of the adults are only 19 and 21 so have the games systems, pcs, tvs etc on often 24 hours a day. We've clamped down on that now. If they do go out and leave it on I just switch it all off at the plug, if it doesn't shut down properly tough! We're reading the meters every day too (only over the last week). We also have bought an electricity monitor. It helps because I can see if a computer etc has been left on without having to keep checking their bedrooms. I can also see if they have the TV and PC on at the same time which I have also banned.
I guess I'm trying to say that it is possible that you have averaged 49 units a day but are now using less.

Shirlgirl - I just wonder how it's possible to use that much electricity when there are 2 adults and one baby in the house! Anyway, the clamping has begun!!

There's a thread on Green & Ethical 'My Energy Use Diary' which has lots of information about what other people are doing. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=980757

I have averaged 3.15 units/day over the past week. I work from home 2 days a week, have a dishwasher, quite a few halogen & ordinary lightbulbs:o , but switch everything off at the mains if not in use (including cooker, washing machine etc).

Also try www.imeasure.org.uk - it's a carbon reduction research project, where you put in weekly meter readings and it compares you against the other participant.

Their estimations are most probably based on your previous years' consumption, and edited slightly to reflect what you've used so far this year.

Do remember, that whilst you're on a mission to save now, you may not have been last year or even earlier this year. Also, remember that in Winter, when it gets darker sooner (therefore, you'll turn on more lights earlier and for longer) and it's colder, your consumption for gas and electric will be much higher, and the figure they've given you is an average. :)
