Why do they advertise if they want to choose. Seems they are only interested in making money from customers, not giving it away. Making it too
obvious though.
Er, I am no great fan of A&L but all banks not just A&L choose the customers they want by setting a credit score that a client must reach to get a current account.0 -
I've just phoned to chase non-payment of my £50 and was told there is a 10 week backlog for processing the payments0

No explaination or reply to my letter, but today I received a letter welcoming me as a new customer, so I suppose that's an appology?
Anyway, shows that it's worth objecting for anyone else who's rejected.
The address on the welcome letter was completely wrong (I'm surprised it got here) and different from the address on the rejection letter. Maybe this caused the credit search to fail. I'll ask them about the address.
Also, the overdraft I was given (£500) was seriously dissapointing. I can't ask them to match an existing one (I currently have an £11,000 facility on a business account, but have never used an overdraft on a personal account). What are other peoples experiences of A&L overdraft limits?0 -
Half your income (meaning your monthly account credits - i.e. income after PAYE if applicable) is their standard limit, but they will exceed this if they have something to match in some cases.0

Well I applied to A&L and got an overdraft which was less than a quarter of my monthly income - I wasn't impressed as they set up all my standing orders and direct debits to go out before my first pay went in - it was only because I transferred some money in from my savings account that it didn't send me seriously overdrawn.
Anyway, A&L's customer service is rubbish. Some options on the internet banking don't seem to work half of the time, and half the people on the end of the telephone banking are useless. Never mind, the credit interest rate is good, which is why I went for it!Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
When I applied I asked them to match my existing overdraft (£3K), which they did.0

I've recently been accepted for a premier account. Does this mean that my credit record is "pristine". Would be nice to think so.
Their credit card is a super balance transfer one? Stoozing is an option then.
I guess that the £150 per account figure is an averaged gain from selling other products.Happy chappy0 -
Hi Folks,
My wife and I have just taken out new accounts with them after having our arms twisted by a cashier whilst paying a credit card bill. Because I in effect recommended my wife to take out an account, we each got the £50 incentive (eventually!!) paid into our accounts.
There were several !!!!-ups along the way, my internet banking was never activated after setting up the account in the branch, and it took 6+ phone calls to try and get it sorted after finally being advised to register online myself which did the trick!! The account switching hasn't worked 'seamlessly' either as it looks like one of my DD's hasn't changed despite me checking with them when I noticed it wasn't showing on my account. Apparently cust serv's told me that it should have gone through as for some reason they'd sent 13 letters out to the particular company!!!
I also tried to amend a standing order online and it wouldn't take it. After calling cust servs (who changed it for me) I was told that it was probably due to it having not come out before???? A work colleague has told me some similar horror stories and he also said that the standing order change didn't work for him either - he was advised it must be something amiss with his PC / settings - yet everything else works o.k. and like me he is a professional computer techie.
I just hope I don't get any real issues to sort out as I don't have much confidence!!!

I've opened an A&L account few weeks ago, and everyhing went according to plan. So far I'm pretty happy with their service (keep fingers crossed).
Their internet banking however, looks like something from the stone-age compaired to Barclays.0 -
My eight week period after paying in my salary was up at last week. However, neither me or my friend has received the £50.
I called the first time and was told that I couldn't have the money as I had already received the £25 bonus for opening the account. This was then corrected. Agent then filled in another form for the recommend a friend for me.
-I was then told that it would be in on Monday the 21st November. Still no money. I called again and the hotline person mentioned that the promotion was "too successful" and that there was a backlog.
Received a letter in the post saying they would investigate it.
I wonder what leg you would have to stand on, if by next year they had not credited the account. Could you just not pay back all of the overdraft (eg £50) explaining that you had withheld this money in lieu of non payment of the recommend a friedn payment.0
