    Cat,

Did you say before you CAN connect to the router?

What happens if you click on the setup link on the top left hand of the screen? (I haven't used this exact router but one similar so I hope it's there)

Hi Cloister, I used to be able to use the router no problem, and it's just been in a drawer, not stomped on or anything. The lights all show fine, doesn't look to be any damage to it. Is there any software that can check if there's damage in it?

I don't have a setup link on corner of screen ... just had to put in the disk, page came up with diagrams on how to connect the modem and router and PC, then there was the settings link to click on and be taken to the settings page (good job it's an offline one!)

Going to give modem another plug in when I get back in bit later!

    Cheers, Cat

I don't think there is any diagnostic software you can use.

You could try updating the firmware, but you would need to plugged into the router via a network cable not wireless.

Actually have you tried a different network cable between the modem and the router?

Hi, wouldn't it've been great if netgear had a diagnostics tool that reported if there was any damage! Already updated the firmware. It's a wired one, if that's the right phrase, lol. Only have 2 network cables in the house, and they both work fine between the modem and PC.

Router's directly connected with modem ... moved the ethernet modem cable from modem to internet port in router; then used ethernet cable to connect PC to one of the 4 ports on the router. No problem with internet connection if only the modem is plugged in; it's as soon as I swap the cables to include the router that I can't get into the internet.

When you did this, did you power down the modem and router and then first power up the modem, wait for a minute and then power up the router?

Hi ... guess what ... did that sequence and it's all fine! I'd tried it this morning after format, but completely forgotten about doing it in sequence. All I can work out from the previous problems is it must have been about SP3. Haven't updated to SP3 again at all, and may just stay that way! Thanks for all posts and advice. Much appreciate.

    Cheers, Cat
