  • Thankyou for all of that, all these suggestions are really making my mind tick.

Defo will try that cupboard thing, I always find I'm spending like £50 a week on shopping, and we still cramming the freezer cuz we have so much other stuff in there.

The thing with withdrawing a certain amount of cash at the beginning of the week might be a bit difficult for me, because i find if the cash is there i will defo spend it.

I live in quite a built up area and to take my son to school I have to pass loads and loads of shops, and it is so temptin to 'just pop in' and I think that is where I am going wrong, the takeaway round the corner doesnt help either!!

But yeah, am gonna do the diary, the eat whats in your cupboard thing and see how that goes.

    many thanks!

Well, I spoke to the husband in last night, he did suggest bringing a takeaway home with but I refused....(go me!!!) I sat him down and told what I had been doing all evening. He seemed pleasently suprised at the amount of debt we was in as he thought it was much, much more.(Just goes to show how we were on different pages as i thought it was much less) So he said he felt good in a sense as he thought we was in much more debt and it would be impossible to get ourselves out of it. So I explained the idea of the spending diary and he did think it was a good idea. He seemed quite optimistic, but I think time is gonna tell with him, he's very fickle like me and i'm sure he'll get bored eventually when I tell him we can't go out on that big shopping spree because we aresorting ourselves out.

Told my mum about the pound for a pound challenge, she thought it was a great idea and told me that if i lost four stone, she would take me abroad for four days VIP style, so I have got a BIG motivation there.

So day 1 of my debt fighting life starts now. Going to count all the pennies in my penny jar to start the 'sealed jar' challenge. think I have about three piggy banks so will be interesting to see how much I have got. they sell these money tins in the shop over the road where you have to open with a tin can openener to get the money out, so will invest in one of them as i am always looking for change for bus money!

My husband is off today so will have another chat to him when he wakes up, just to show him how serious I am about busting our debts.

I told my sister about this site, and she said 'I don't have time for all that' I said in reply 'you HAVE to make time if you want to clear your debts'

Think I'm the newest ambassador for the site!!!

    Well done you :)

To keep the motivation going why not cut out pictures or print them off the internet of people at a spa, a REALLY nice hotel room, champagne and strawberries... Stick them on the fridge and food cupboards. That way everytime you get tempted to snack you will be reminded that it's slowing your progress to that 4 day VIP trip :)

  • Just read your diary. Well done with the new attitude. Glad you OH was ok with the talk.

Also as you are losing weight and also are tempted by the shops on the way to school how about combining the two and power walking past the shops to see how much you can save and lose that way?

    Good luck

  • Toffee can I just point out that your comments are very positive but then mostly followed by putting yourself down that you doubt you can do it type of thing... Thought I'd point it out to see if that would help you realise that there is only you in the way of succeeding and you CAN do it.

    Good luck again

Thanks KM, I know what you mean, I have me heart in the right place, but it all seems like pie in the sky at the moment. i think once I have the full support of my husband (he was very tired last night) I might feel better about the whole thing
