with recording devices on our mobile phones etc people like her do get caught out eventually its horrible that type of work environment though and when your not well tackling it is probably the last thing on your mind.

Just spoke to my mum and they have replied to my appeal letter (within a week) informing me that they have sent all documents to a tribunal and they will be in contact to inform me when and where the appeal will be heard. They have also sent a list of contacts for me to get free advice and maybe get someone to go with me - my mum going though she alot more switched on than me at the moment bless her dont know what id do without her. She used to work for the CAB though and she said you should go and talk with them they will wipe the floor with them.

Stazi link is full of good information, Thanks Starzi, you can print it and use it to arm yourself from what I understand its an informal few people round a table type meeting.

I agree. The information on the link was last updated in Nov 2007, I thought that things changed early this year?

    Promise I'll look in a min! x

I know that as far as my area of interest (epilepsy)is concerned there has been a change, having a seizure or something simlar(their words)once a month used to get 15 points now its only 12,whilst one or more a week is still 15
only a subtle change but enough to take some people off I/B

how can you apply then for JSA say if you have a seizure once a month. If your supposed to declare your fit and available for work when you sign on but once every four weeks you may have a seizure - and from my experience (not personal) this can knock the stuffing out of you for at least 12 to 24 hours if not 48 surely you are lying on your JSA claim and are being advised to do so by the Department of Work and Pensions themselves?

    hi
i just wanted to let you know you are not alone ,bit long winded but my story
off work since may 2007 due to depression and stress brought on by bullying by senior manager ,after six months full pay and six months half pay i resigned from the job after 30yrs service ,
due to the depression and lack of income i found myself in a complete nightmare financially as i couldnt pay my bills.
i declared myself bancrupt in may this year not an easy decision but after help from citizens advice and the fantastic forum on here decided i didnt have a choice my house was repossesed in june so i now live in a rented property with my partner and 3 sons.
i applied for IB and like you recieved it for 12 weeks then had an assesment with a doctor at the beginning of july
i cant believe after 10 mins talking to me he could decide i was fit to work when my own doctor who has been seeing me monthly for the last 3 yrs had just given me a sick note for 3 mths
i have lodged an appeal and have been told it can take up to 6mths , i tried to claim income support and was told as my partner works i am not entitled
even though he earns £200 a week and the rent is £700 a month ,we cant claim housing costs as two of my sons are working adults so they seem to think they should pay the rent ,i have just applied for job seekers allowance as i cant live on nothing and had an interview yesterday ,i was told i might not get that as i resigned from my job
i am so frustrated with the whole system ,i have never claimed benefit and have worked full time for 30yrs ,i was paying £1000 a month in tax and ni before i finished work and wonder WHERE HAS THIS GONE ,
i have no idea whats going to happen now if i apply for a job and my depression kicks in i wont be able to get out of bed and go ,but if i dont get a job they stop the benefit ( thats if they give it me )
looking on the bright side i am 100% better than i was when i finished work but want to feel 150% better mentally before i start work again
    any tips from anyone

Thank you so much for that. As we are doing an IB50 again for my husband. And seeing the point scheme has made me feel so much confident about my husband continuing on IB.

I was so scared that we would loose it and then we would be stuffed and have to use all savings to survive.

Thanks again. Shame I can only say thanks once.

  • My husband too is doing an IB50 at the moment and has printed off the descriptors and scores and has ticked off anything relvant to him and is going to send it in as supporting evidence with the IB50 (he did this last time).

The form is going to the Doctor this afternoon. (As we are in Spain it is bilingual).(edited to add: Dr filled it in - no problems and he was quite happy to do so. Phew, another hurdle over!)

He scores 22 on the physical and 19 on the mental, so I think they'll have a hard job getting him down to a combined score of under 15.

Best of luck to all going through this stressful process.

Thanks. What really gets me is that I looked at the DWP handbook thingy the other day. It states clearly that after 18 months after a stroke there is unlikely to be any more recovery. So why when we are 22 months after a stroke are we still being asked to fill in IB50's

I think everyone has to fill one of them in, unless they're exempt from the assessment.

I have no idea about exemptions.

But my husband is like you. Unless there is some miracle cure he ain't going to be getting any better. He also has a life long auto-immune condition that will never go away.

He is likely never to get full movement back in his arm or hand because of the stroke. And part of his brain died that does not recover.

Maybe I need to look in to exemptions.
