Son cant stop eating.....

Eeeek!

Im not sure where im going with this, but basically my son cant stop eating....

Hes 8 and a half, and doesnt seem to have an 'off' switch when it comes to food. If I didnt stop him, he'd eat all day. And I mean literally.
He tries to sneak into the kitchen to take food from the fridge, he'll ask my other half to get him stuff and 'not tell mummy' and its reached a point where im getting scared, not to mention skint!

For example, tonight, not half an hour ago, I made chicken curry, rice and naan bread. He scoffed the lot, but ten minutes ago came in and asked if he could microwave some popcorn

He's not overweight, and hes very active, but, to my mind at least, if i didnt stop him, he would literally eat all day.

I think what Im asking is.....

Is this just normal boy behaviour? Or should I maybe have a word with a doctor or something?
You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

Probably normal behaviour for a boy! My son is permanetly hungry and he is 9. As long as he is eating fairly healthy things and not sweets and crisps he should be fne. I'm not sure if this is an old wives tale but if someone is continously hungry it could be sign that they have worms.

hi i have a 5 yr old the same , and my mum said my brother was the same so it may be a boy thing,
saying that my son is really tall for his age already 4ft 3 lol and a size 2 shoe,

things like rice to tend to fill you up but an hour later he is hungry again.

would having a bowl of chopped fruit in the fridge help his picking,
or lots of low fat yogurts.
sometimes kids confuse thirst with hunger ,give him plenty to drink when eating .

i would only worry if he is getting really overweight but boys do tend to burn lots more energy than girls

My son was the same from about 10 years old until he was about 18.He would eat all day, seemed like it was 1 continuous meal.He was and still is very active(he is now 23 and a gym instructor and life guard) and has never been overweight but he eats at normal meal times now and rarely snacks between meals.
When he was younger i took him to the doctors about it and he didnt seem worried at all as long as he was eating healthy food.

Its hard to judge whats "normal boy growing eating" and whats not. I could say my stepson never stops eating yet may only be eating half of what your son is eating - so its hard to tell.

I would say keep a food diary for a week - and get him and partner in on it so as near as accurate log is kept and then pop along to your doctor with it. It prolly is nothing but you know yourself there are some conditions that cause severe over eating so its best to put your mind to rest

i have 2 brothers and i remember my mum being upset when she did the weekly shop as there would be next to nothing left 3 days later..
neither are overweight.. my son would eat all day, he is 3 so i provide fruit and healthy snacks for him to 'eat all day'.. if he says 'i don't like that' i say well your not hungry then...
bit different when they are at the age to help themselves..

hollow legs/ human dustbins my mum used to say..
and gannets! lol that was my nans favourite

Is he at the age where there's a growth spurt? When I was going through puberty, I always ate. (and never gained weight)

Oh thank you all so much for your replies! Ive been worrying myself stupid over this the last week or so... I suppose its not so 'obvious' when hes in school, but since the holidays started, i notice it more cause he's with me all the time, if that makes sense?
