Phone number change and AOL Broadband

AOL broadband recently offered me a speed upgrade with an 18 month contract. This was fine it worked no problems over the speed they said.
Then my partner moved out and I had to the change my phone number as it had been in his name. The broadband worked for a week then stopped. It was June 14th 2008 that I was given my new number.
Since then I haven't been able to get broadband. BT say its not their problem. AOL haven't been able to get me broadband since then. I am on dial up through AOL but paying for a broadband contract. They won't cancel this contract even though they can't provide me with broadband. I have been given August free of charge but what I want is broadband speed and not dial up which also stops people ringing me.
What can I do about this?
Thanks
Janet

ummm... have you asked AOL to re-provide broadband on your new line?
broadband is tied to your line, so if you change the number broadband will disappear.... AOL will probably want you to start the contract again though....
I know you said you don't have a new line, but a new phone number is more or less the same thing....0 -
Yep mrJ is right - although it might not seem like a new line then they will have made changes on the exchange and they will automatically have placed a PSTN cease on your old "line" as the CLI (basically your phone number) is directly linked to the Broadband. Therefor to your ISP the line was ceased.
You will need to speak to AOL (best of luck) and get them to do a Provide on your new number. It should be possible to do this free - especially if they are in a good mood...
