Nice (in a weird way) that i know it's not just me and it happens to someone else, brushing my teeth takes up a lot of concentration in order to not gag and as soon as the mouthwash goes in, i'm running to the toilet! I might try this - can't be worse than normal treeth brushing!
If you intend this as a means of physically cleaning your teeth then it wont work for you. No mouthwash no matter what they say will "clean" your teeth IMO. Plaque physically adheres to a tooth surface initially via a pellicle layer and then latterly by the formation of a very adherent biofilm. The only way to properly remove this is to physically remove it with brushing. Now detergents within toothpaste are formulated will AID this but detergents will NOT satisfactorily remove plaque. A mouthwash such as corsodyl works as it is active against the bacteria but it does not clean your teeth. It would leave the extracellular plaque matrix behind which is easily re collonised. Rinsing your mouth with oil would lack the anti bacterial properties associated with corsodyl and would also not clean0 -
i didnt mean to use instead of brushing my teeth - i meant it surely the effects the oil pulling can't be any worse than the gag reflex i suffer when using toothpaste + brushing that so i'm off to give it a go in conjunction with the same. mouthwash is out of teh question for me, as soon as it goes in, everything else comes up! :rotfl: sorry for TMI!0

exactly how are you using mouthwash for it to make you need to run to the bowl? If you just swill it round your mouth its no worse than swishing a drink around surely?0

i gag just from brushing my teeth - i don't know if its a weak gag reflex, and the same with mouthwash i only use half a capful and still as soon as i swish it i need to spit it out as soon as possible otherwise i'll be gagging for at least a minute afterwards. It's a pain but if I concentrate on something else when I'm brushing my teeth then it's usually fine.
Swishing a drink around my mouth is fine, i don't know whether the minty flavours are a bit much for my pallette as I also get it when eating certain types of chewing gums.0 -
have you tried non minty mouth washes?
I did a quick search and have NO idea if this is any good ... but it has fluoride in it so if you have trouble brushing then some additional fluoride in your mouth would be a positive things IMO

and on the UK site ... sorry I didnt realise it was US ...
If you are having problems brushin then an increased exposure to fluoride is what you need IMO ... I really can not see any way this oil pulling can benefit you and your oral hygiene.

something like this may also be better tollerated ... it still has fluoride and I know its kids paste .... but this would be better than nothing I suspect0 -
Someone asked if olive oil was ok? I was wondering about this as well as I have some which I use for the ocm0

Dont doubt you for a secondBut they may make the experience more tollerable for you
have you tried an electric tooth brush? I find they are better tollerated too due to there being less bodily movement of the brush against your tongue etc

:rotfl: i've just switched back to manual brushing as found that the electric one made it worse - think i'm just a weirdo!!0
