If you were putting up a shed would you paint it before or after putting it up? its already treated for weather resistance the paint is purely cosmetic.
cheers
xx
Hi Buffythedebtslayer - good name!!! personally I would paint it afterwards as all those nails/screws going in when putting together could chip off some of the paint... make sure the paint is non-waterbased for outside.. as I bought some really pretty acrylic colours to jazz up my shed/workshop but then realised that the rain would wash the colour off!!!! Also even treated wood needs redoing at some stage.
A good tip to keep your shed really waterproof and cosy once it is up, especially if you want to use it as a workshop as well, especially during the winter months - get some vinyl sheeting (B&Q etc) and tack that into place - then sheets of thin polystyrene which you can glue or tack then hardboard over that and paint if required - I also lined the floor with vinyl sheeting before placing an old carpet over it that came out of my son's room when re-decorating - you could look on freecycle.org for someone getting rid of a carpet too (I got rid of one that way) - then you have a really cosy shed which stays dry. Oh and i also did the same to the inside of the roof (with vinyl and polystyrene) except that my dad was getting rid of some tongue and groove pine panelling so we cut it up and laid it across the top instead of hardboard. I had a friend who screwed some corrugated aluminium sheeting onto the outside of the roof for me and hey presto an ultra waterproofed workshop/shed.0 -

I am also guessing you wouldn't get your Mum (retired) to paint it.
I am so p£ssed off I could scream.
Sheddery can get to you like that?! (Ask Len, how long did it take him to get it up - answers on a postcard please!)
Is OH being a !!!!!!? Is he using his mum as free labour?!
Nice shed advice from smarter above! not my area of expertise!!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
my sister and her boyfriend said to my mum they would put up our new shed ( I was all for getting some one in to be honest)
any how they have said she has to paint it first - apparently it will be easier.
she is by no means incapable - she is wonderful and could do it. but you know what
1. she has spent her life worrying about us and caring for us
2. she is 71.and 5'2. the shed is six foot by four foot. she is going to paint one side at a time and they are going to come round and move the bits round so she can paint the next bit.
they come round once a week roughly.
I can't believe I am going to write this in public but any way, I just think its a way for my lazy a*sed sister and bf to get out of putting up the shed. cos in four weeks summer will be over and then it wont be worth it.
I think its MAD to paint first. I can't even believe they have suggested it. I can't even believe I am so angry about it. yes clearly the most logcial thing to do is flap about with huge bits of wood and paint. instead of waiting till its finished and then paint. (and Maz I have NO idea why we are painting it.)
I also think they are reluctant to do it cos the shed is mainly for me, and essentially even tho we do a good job of pretending, we don't like each other.
I feel so bad for mum. she is constantly stck between the two of us.Nevertheless she persisted.0 -

Perhaps you should start a Shed Thread. For what it is worth I would paint mine after it was up. A shed is for life not just for the summer
. How about your sister and Bf paint it for her before hand and then it can be painted when up. Offer to do it but if it looks OK stand and admire

Awww Buffy, aren't families a pain. With you it's your sister, with me it's my dad.
Another lovely day and I'm stuck inside at work. I suppose I really shouldn't complain too much - I've only had to work for about 45 minutes in total. I've spent the last 2 hours enetering competitions from here:p . I even downloaded Roboform to my office pc to make it a bit easier. Cheeky!
So how is everyone else doing? Actually, now that I've asked that I'll go back and read the rest of the thread.Reality check - hit rock bottom on 15 Dec 2008 with unsecured debts of £29,136 and not enough money to live on
:j NOW DEBT FREE!!!! :jI try to take life one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once

Sheds are not thread killers!!! But i agree they sound a bit like they are stalling......... families huh?!?I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Thought the scorching weather would have suited you, Scorchy...lol.
Gah, don't get me started on sheds. Mine nearly led to divorce!
The sun is out here now and it's pretty hot and humid, but there's a bit more breeze that we had yesterday at least, so it's more bearable. Me and Natasha both had a nap for an hour after lunch, it was fab....felt sooooo lazy, but I really needed a bit of sleep, because I'm working till 11pm tonight.
I've tidied Ryan's room and made quorn chicken supreme and rice for Stu's dinner (me and Tash had it for lunch), so I am feeling like a very good wifey today! :rotfl:
Just saw those pinky coloured orchids on tv like IA's tattoo - hope she's okay, it seems very quiet without her."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
