    Hello,

I posted a few days ago about not being able to be motivated and somebody pointed me in the direction of the Flylady website. I've been doing the baby steps and finally convinced our lazy lodger that he doesn't have to use the sink to soak things for days... and I decided that today I would try just level 1. Well I have done that (clearing the surfaces in the kitchen) and I notice that one of the level 2 tasks is to clean my oven. I've been moaning about our oven for ages as it makes horrible black smoke which smells nasty every time I use it! :o

The only thing is (this is a bit embarrassing!) I have never cleaned an oven in my life and haven't got a clue where to start. I was hoping you lovely ladies could give me some suggestions! I have two different types of oven cleaner in my cupboard, one in a spray bottle (cif) and one which is a clay like substance in a pot (astonish). These both say to apply, (cif says to leave for a while,) and rinse off. Sorry if I sound thick, but how exactly do you rinse off an oven? It's hard to see in there and have visions of ending up with water all over the floor, while I strain to see if I have rinsed every last bit of soapy stuff off! Or should I not worry if I don't get every last bubble off?

I also have some stardrops and some lemons, but no spare squeezy bottle, just a sponge and a pot. I probably ought to use the proper oven cleaning stuff up first though. (at least then I would gain a squeezy bottle!) but if it is much less hassle to use anything else I will probably do that. Oh - and do you have to turn the oven on like the prompt says?? I think I will melt if this house gets any hotter :(

Is there an idiot's guide to cleaning an oven anywhere? :rotfl:

In my HHC got kitched wiped down - appliances, surfaces, tiles & cupboard fronts. Floor swept. HH then ended but I stayed with it to mop floor, which is now drying.
Slight disruption to HHC caused by large hungry teenager (But I'm CLEANING the kitchen!) Put most of stuff back in undersink cupboard, just waiting for plastic basket for dusters etc to dry (and that was grotty - don't think I've ever washed it out before - the dustbunnies were breeding! LOL)
So mucho thanks for the inspiration.
I'm going to use the mopping water to wash the front door down now.
    Then I think I'll have a coffee - I know I've earned it.

Incidentally these threads are so motivating and so supportive! Thank you all.:D :T

(I bet everytime I go in kitchen I will open, and admire cupboard. How sad am I?)

To rinse the oven I use a bowl of hot water and some kitchen roll..

I use dry kitchen roll to scrape off the worst then use an old raggy cloth.. or anything I can get my grubby mitts on and wipe around with the hot water... one wipe and rinse the cloth.. the water should be hot enough to rinse the fat off the cloth so you aren't just smearing it about.

Then.. buy a couple of those fabulous teflon sheets and lay one in the bottom of the oven.. anything dropping while it cooks goes on those and is so much simpler to wipe off..

and a wonderful word... Ovenmate... works like a dream.. even in my never cleaned oven!

    Afternoon all.

One load of washing done, it was outside for an hour or so before the rain. Sunshine and heavy showers ever since so it's staying upstairs.

Tuesday is living room day for me and I've actually done it well today. Spent nearly two hours doing living room, hallway and stairs. I think I've moved everything and cleaned behind and under and it's all put back. Vacuumed kitchen too.

It's a bit fresher here today but the house is still hot even with all the windows and doors open.

I'm on my break as just spent HHC under the sofa (OMG what a state!!)

Foreversomeday you are no the only one who has never cleaned an oven! I have ordered some oven cleaner to come with my groceries so will do that tomorrow when it arrives.

    So far today I have

Folded washing and put half away (DS1 sleeping so not going in that room!)
Put washing on the line, even though it looks like rain.
Swept floors downstairs and washed kitchen floor.
Cleaned and swept under the sofa.
Called Lampons to get them to come fix a few things in the house.
Put fishfingers on for the kids.
Ordered ADSA online shop for tomorrow.

Now I need to clear off the table as I put all the stuff from under the sofa on it, DS1 due to wake up any minute though so I am having a break while their lunch cools down.

Good luck to everyone just started their HHC!
