Hello my M/S chums, back from hols and spent £3.45, just milk and a couple of wee things. As this takes me to only £23.14 I will continue on August till the 31st. My holiday was great but my case went to Amsterdam without me on the way home apparently, so I dont have that back yet. Came back on friday, out for birthday dinner on Saturday, at daughters for dinner on Sunday and at friends house fr dinner yesterday, should have been going out for lunch with sis today but too tired. Challenge looking good and freezer still packed so looks like I could be on a head start for September.

  • Hi,

*BigBird* - many happy returns - hope you have a lovely day

Picked up a few bits from Mr A today and noticed that their 150g chopped mixed nuts were rolled back from 55p to 25p - got some as I thought they would be handy in baking at that price - charged 55p at the till - so check this if you buy any - on the plus side I now have a £2 gift card which I will use another time.

    Will update signature later.

Just done my last shop of the month and managed to stay under budget :) In theory, we don't need anything else before Monday but am not declaring yet just in case.

Todays shop included a pair of jeans for me as all my ones are falling down lol, these ones actually fit! They were £18 (shhhhh) so shouldn't really be on the GC but thought I'd leave them in and see if I can still manage it!

Can everyone please put their totals in red when they declare as I'm a bit brain dead at the mo and am getting confused and not able to read every post properly. Thanks xx

    HM Bread

    500g / 1lb bread flour 16p (48p 1.5KG)
    1tsp salt 1p (74p/750g)
    1tsp sugar 1p (£1.61/2KG)
    1tsp quick yeast 5p? (99p/125g)
    275ml / 1/2 pint hand hot water
    1tbsp oil 1p

    =24p/loaf

Hovis white bread mix 29p MrT & MrA
Hovis granary bread mix 27p MrA 34p MrT

So it is cheaper to make it yourself with flour & yeast instead of using the mixes and you dont have any additives if you do it yourself; but it can be easier/quicker for some to use the hovis mix, as it's not massively more expensive. Other mixes are more expensive. Most are 50p - 75p each. HTH

Thank you so much for that- had never worked out how much loaf would cost, thats brill-more motivation to stick to making own now. Thank you :-)

    Morning all

    It's my birthday today :D

    :j Many happy returns *BigBird*!

And hugs/condolences to those in need...

I'm declaring August at £134.97 (£45 under budget :T ) and MrsM, please could you put me down for £50 in September.

At first glance this might seem overly ambitious, but I'm off on holiday (honeymoon actually :j ) from 15 September and we really don't need to shop much before then as I'm trying to run the freezer down before we go.

Off to update sig now, then I'm going to go through the freezer list again and draw up some kind of meal plan.

Hope everyone's had a good Bank Holiday weekend

    Hi
Orkney Star if you google Rutibaga you should getlots of ideas for swedes, I think it must be the American name for them (or latin)
Thanks although it wasn't actually me who had the swede!
Been busy this morning- out and about and getting bits done  !
Bought a few bits at the COOP (whoopsies mainly :D) and a couple of cooking apples from the butchers to go with the blackberries- have updated total to include this. Will declare for final on Friday night and also set our Sept budget (which starts on 30th Augs- Sat)- think we will work on a weekly basis again, but with no additional bargain allowance this time (it was only in August I wrongly thought it would be good for us to have a diff. 'bargains/BOGOFs' budget- too much hassle to work it all out and keep the money separate in my purse!).
Slow cooker chicken, veg and mushroom curry with rice for dinner. Made a fruit loaf yesterday, packed with sultanas, cranberries, dates and prunes. Mmmmm, although I better be quick seeing as DH working his way through it very quickly.
Ok, enough for now, take care and hugs to all who need them.

I popped in to a local cash and carry on the way home from town as they sell to the public and we had run out of garlic mayo (they sell it in litre bottles and DS can get through it in no time). Well I also picked up a pack of 'bacon bits' 1Kg for £1. Well you can't walk away at that price can you?
Anyway I opened it when I got home as I thought I would freeze in in smaller packets for quiche etc - trouble is the 'bits' are 5-6 slices about 1cm thick:D

Off to find a BBQ sauce recipe and abandon todays meal plan methinks!!

    Afternoon all

Sending huge hugs to HereWeGoAgain ....

Well I did have a wander to "real" today..to price up some of the things i want to get in store ready for winter...some things are  ..Have got used to Aldi and whoopsies :rotfl: ... Its a good job i don't have room in the freezer as they are selling whole ickle pigs... 35kilo for €87.15 -£70 ..... I love the fact that in the supermarkets here they sell everything, including pig trotters(not braved them yet :p ), fresh suet, soup bones, raw tongue etc all alongside the other meat products ....

Anyway whilst i was pricing up, I got a few bits for storing from my leftover money from Augusts budget :p
    • 2 3X3 servings instant mash with bacon n onion @90c (the same price as the 2X3 serving box  )-It will have to be an emergency to use it -but potatoes don't seem to keep at the moment so I will get a few more and once i have added butter etc they should be fine and only 10c/8p per serving
    • 2X500g boxes of pudding rice @ 39c
    • 2 packs small dried tortellini @ 70c -for putting in hubbies Hm soups to give extra oomph for lunches
So spent -€3.98 -but at least I have my winter supplie under way -plus I got my shopping fix :rotfl:
Im planning on getting hubby to take me to fetch a whole tray of baked beans(only 1 kind we like but the tin is packed solid ;) ), a tray of sweetcorn and a tray of passata.. i noticed today that it had gone up to 35c for 500g ..in Aldi its still 25c -and i will use a lot in autumn/winter for chillies, goulash soups etc for hubby

have noticed today that Stollen are out in the supermarkets...so I guess xmas is upon us  :rotfl:
Right back off to make more lists :rotfl: have a great day everyone
