August 2008 Grocery Challenge

Well I've unofficially been doing the August challenge and have spent £31.44 out of a £40 budget so pretty please with that.
Next month I'm going for a budget of £30 since I'm staying at my parents for the 1st week of September so I'll be getting well fed without spending a penny!
Quick Q: Have some left over curry sauce and don't know what to do with it. Would like to try something different rather than have chicken curry for another day! Any suggestions?0 -
maybe make a kedgeree style dish with it?Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0

Hi Everyone.
Hope you are all enjoying a nice long weekend.
Unfortunately I have gone over budget. I had unexpected guests for the bank holiday. So had to get a few things I didn't have in. Shouldn't need to spend any more this week. Have got plenty in the cupboards and freezer.2025 Decluttering 10472⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Evening all
Kymbogs-Jacket potatoes freeze..but they seem to re-heat better if you take out the middles n bash in some filling before freezing, cooked onion and grated cheese is a good one
Fertyskids -Leftover chicken... I posted a lovely chicken canelonni recipe the other day and it uses very little chicken:p , Chicken pie -bulked out with onions, mushrooms n sweetcorn and either a pastry or potato top, chicken n sweetcorn soup -again uses very little as long as you have the chicken stock ....so without being to tight fisted i would get at least those 3 meals out of it ...there are only 2 of us..but we don't do "dainty":rotfl:
Pink Princess -not sure if you have enough time to get the peppers to fruit..but if you have the compost etc anyway i would give it a go... They will need plenty of warmth -so i would be tempted to have them in a greenhouse(if you have one) or in a sunny window bottom,,, and then pop them outside on really warm days....if they start to flower then i would put them outside so they bees etc can help them along ...ooohh and i would give them a bit of tomato food a couple of times a week to give them an extra bit of help... don't forget to save some seeds in an envelope for an early start next season.... i have chilli/peppers and tomatoe seeds lined up un bottle tops at the moment -until i can get some little envelopes:D-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

So if I want to find some older ones I would have to go back through the old threads. Also will these ones be carried over to next month or do we start a new list each month?
The recipes are from the last couple of months, I carry the list over each month
I'm so chuffed cos my mum has come over to visit for a few days and has got me a BM. She had bought me an ice-cream maker for my birthday (in may) but had forgotton that she had already got me one  so she took it back and swapped it for a Morphy Richards Fastbake instead :j So no more yukky shop bought bread.
Better stock up with some of them hovis bread mixes :rotfl:

Try freecycle in your area - they frequently come up in on f/c our area - it's where I got most of mine from & then gave them away to :-)
Also google real nappies for your area - we have a scheme subsidised (I believe by local council) where parents can try them for a month free and if they buy them get cashbackYour health visitor/ local clinic may be able to point you to such a scheme if you have one locally

Evening All
Just about to add up this weeks receipts and add to my figure, think I might be already over but thats because of our party which I really shouldnt have added. However September is back to being a normal month so will see how I go then.
After buying the food for the party I am really concerned how much the Xmas food shop will be so will start adding items each time I do an online shop, I do this every year normally but will start earlier this year.0 -
My budget is blown
Popped along to MrT last night to get veggies to make my own soup - that would have taken me a little over, but then I spied 2 packs of whoopsied organic free range chicken breasts, reduce to half price so I had to have them. They are huge! Must be some kind of mutant chickens! But that should be all the chicken I'll need in September.
I have a batch of HM spicy carrot and tomato soup cooling on the worktop. Far nicer than tinned stuff. Over the next couple of days I'll also make apple and parsnip soup and BNS, sweet potato and carrot soup. So I should have plenty of soup to get me through september too
nikki, I have a Morphy Richards fastbake BM too and I love it - it's far better than the cheapy one I had previously. I'm going to have a go at making jam in it soon, to use up some of the blackberries I've picked. You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0
