Wonderful news Angchris, congratulations! And congratulations on your 20th wedding anniversary Denise! Have a fab hol SFT.
SmileyS, everyone spends such different amounts I think it would be difficult to say. It quite often depends on how long people have been doing this challenge ;) and what is included in their budget (eg cleaning stuff or not). Perhaps someone with a similar household can help you out, or look at people's sigs as sometimes they include family details alongside the GC totals.
Got a few whoopsies at Co-op last night for OH's lunches, along with some cheap new pots and a melon for 40p :T I'm hopefully making a big batch of chilli today to help stock up my new freezer. Isn't the weather awful?! Have a great day everyone x

I have just made the mixture for the custard cookies and the method said roll in to a sausage shape, but I can't do this as my mixture is like cake mixture not dough. I did use butter not marg but I don't think that would have mattered (would it). Can I just add more flour??

  • Congratulations Angchris!

Smiley S - sounds like you're doing a lot better feeding a family of 5 than I am feeding just me and the bf - we normally spend £40+ a week! I've cut that back on here to £30 (and maybe further as things get going, who knows lol...). I come from a big northern irish family of 6 (if anybody wants a recipe for proper irish stew just say!), and my little mum is the best bargain hunter I know - she'd spend £70-80 a week in tescos on groceries for all of us before I moved to england? That was about 6 years ago so £75 for 5 people sounds about right.

Busymum - don't panic - add a touch more flour!

Popped home over lunch and our noticed washing machine is broken so I'm going to have to spend a fortune at the laundrette this week... :( <sigh>

good work angchris. happy anniversary denisefowler.
Hoping for an NSD today, I do need more of them. Off me hols on friday so gave away coupons that are going out of date before I get back, I like to see someone getting the use of them. Got back in the saddle with Amazon today, so a couple of quid coming my way. All these things, though never making serious money, all help out. Still on my list of must buy are anew shower and a new hall carpet, I,m getting embarrest at the state of it now.
Also my spelling but thats another thing. Have a good day all.

    Hi busy mum,

I have always used butter when making these and certainly the mixture is soft and sticky but I just splodge (technical term!) it onto the cling film in a line and then when I have the cling film round it I then shape it into a cyliner carefully so as not to rip the cling film - it really firms up in the fridge then just cut off slices - really delicious and short. I'm sure that you will have added a bit more flour by now as suggested by savvystudent so I hope they turn out well.

Thanks Perrywinkle, yes I had already added more flour and rolled out and put into fridge, but thanks for advice. I seem to have lots of long thin sausage shapes does this matter. Has anyone taken and posted a photo of their custard cookies? Will let you know how they turn out
