Thanks everyone for response It was a bit scary up hill at 5miles per hour, luckliy it was quiet, late and dark wouldent have attempted in day as may get pulled over by the police and more strange looks.!
I have a huge back box which fits 2 bags and underseat fits 1, next time will take rucksack as dont like hanging stuff off handle bars even if jaimie did in his naked chef series!
Must admit did get bit carried away hence the 18quid overspend! But its liek when u get basket insteda of trolly or small trolly instead of basket to limit the amount brought.

Im just so fed up of running out of food, doing expensive top ups as well as overspending in supermarket.

I think I brought wisly, have mealplanned for whole weeks im sure we will run out of biscuits and crisps by end of week!

I know theres sopme debate over supermarket prices and I guess sainsbury deemd pricey but they have some fab deals on at the moment, free recipie cards, good range of basics own value mena they not hugly expensive for us, its our prefered supermarket if we had lodas of money but I fear tesco is costing us more.

Might alternate and try morrisons or aldis next week as weekly shop better for us.

Really dont wnat to fail my first grocery challange but am finding it so hard!

Gailey, just hang in there, we don't always come in on target but the journey each month teaches us new things. It's not failier, it's learning/life
Stick with it and make it more of a game to cut down on the worry, I know saving is a serious thing but you have to take the pressure off yourself.

first chance i've had to get on here today, so i've grabbed a cuppa and an iced bun, and i'm catching up on all your posts :D

went to Mr M's to get some more of his 50p chicken......only managed to get 4 boxes today (you're only allowed 2per customer) so i paid for 2, put 'em in me bag, then went round again, got 2 more, then went round again........was just standing at the till waiting to pay for my 3rd lot when a member of staff came and told me off, and said i couldn't have anymore as i'd already been seen buying some! i wouldn't care but i'd seen LOADS of people doing exactly the same, probably cos it's the last day of the offer. the burgers and sausages weren't limited today, you could have as many as you wanted as they said they couldn't get rid of them........oh well, at least i've got enough chicken now to last me a couple of months :D
  • When I feel I need some inspiration I take a look around Waitrose at their chilled ready to cook section. I look at all the pretty pictures on the boxes and the even prettier prices and then look at the main ingredients. They have some weird and wonderful concoctions. Last night I bought one of them-well it was down from £3.99 to £1.29. Interesting-it was.
Anyway it was baked beetroot, butternut squash and spinach in a tray with sunflower seeds and a little pot of feta cheese. Well Im sure I could do it for no more than 50p.
It was a nice change-all veggy and as a lot of people are now growing beetroots and butternut squash I though I would pass it on.
Other things I looked at-like Lamb in an apricot sauce-none going cheap though.
Got my chicken cooked by 10 am today as only me and dd at home-oh-its lovely and quiet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just have to inspire myself with the minced beef now which I thawed out. Well Im sure there are a million things I can do with that-maybe meatballs-anyone want to inspire me?

Hi AngelatGraceland, thanks for the great ideas - have looked at a few things like that before and thought they sounded nice, but never thought of doing them myself

Right, inspiration for mince - can't think straight today for some reason except the usual, meatballs, chilli, mince, onion & mash with gravy, but, coz the weather is quite, how shall I say, changable, at the moment, I am making a shepherds pie today (bulked up of course!) I can also use up some of the stuff in the fridge then - oooh, quick question to everyone - can you use normal apples as opposed to cooking apples in stuff? we have some that will never get eaten now, so thought I might add one to the shepherds to give a bit of a twang? was going to stew the others and have with custard after dinner...

Off shopping now - just couldn't bring myself to do it yesterday...

I use eating apples in my burgers and meatballs although I do use 1/2 and 1/2 pork and beef mince so no idea how it will go with mince alone.Just a thought.

I layer finely sliced apples on pork chop or escolope and top with stuffing mix - lovely.
