If you're using Internet Explorer, right click the top menu area and make sure 'Address Bar' is ticked.
  • Go to the top of the screen (assuming thats where it has gone from) right click. ensure that standard buttons and address bar are ticked. If not select them!

  • Thankyou! Paul_H and Number6. I did what you said, right clicked and found that the standard buttons and address bar is ticked, but still can't find the address bar.
I have internet explorer. and windows 98.
I've messed up big time, because 2 days ago I had a microsoft update telling me to download, Security update for DirectX 9 (KB904706)
also Cumulative Security update for internet explorer 6 Service pack 1 (KB896688) since then my address bar has vanished. but on my desk top I have a new icon called ( New briefcase)
This is all so complicated and I think I should try and delete these to new downloads if I can.
What do you think? can you please advise me, I am very thick and need simple information if possible.
    Thankyou

My GF's computer is the same, she has the Address bar ticked and to the right of where the address bar should be it says Address but no bar. I've tried to expand this etc but to no avail !!
  • Is the window sized correctly? Up above where you have just looked for the tick in the address bar there is a - which minimises the screen, a box (could be 2 set on each other) and a x which closes down the window. If you click on the middle button (the box) it should resize the screen. Either it will appear full screen and you be able to see it or it will appear as a smaller screen. This may bring to address box back.

If it does click on the blue bit at the top (the bit saying money saving expert or whatever) hold down the left mouse button, drag to the top left so it is in the corner. Click on the very bottom left corner again holding down the left mouse button and drag it until it opens out full screen. Hopefully the screen should now look as it supposed to. Close down the screen with the x (top right corner) and when you open it should open full screen.

  • If you still can't find it it is possible internet explorer is corrupt.

You can check it out via the following...

    Click,
    Start,
    Run
    ,
    TYPE cmd enter
TYPE cd c:\ enterHave your os cd in the drive
    TYPE
    sfc /scannow enter

Windows will then compare the original files with what you have and replace any that are corrupt.
