Turned Down for MRC DLA But Fit Criteria

I get MRC and LRM but I need someone with me all the time, I once fractured my neck in an attempt to get independance. I'm forever doing real damage to myself, I've had to many broken bones I get bone density scans every year to make sure i've not got long term bone problems. I see countless hospital specialists and I'll never drive.
I am so grateful for the award I've got and I think you should grow up and realise that there's a hell of a lot more you could do for yourself. I'd kill to be in your position so grow up.0 -
I do receive Higher rate care and lower rate disability for a mental illness - well not for the illness, but the way it affects me, and I would give anything to not have HRC but have my health.. money doesn't solve everything. Makes life easier in regards to my illness, but I would give anything to not need it:j £2 coins = £2.00 :j0

I feel that Titch only sees £££ signs and i get the impression, he/she is willing to lie/exaggerate their disability in order to get the higher rate of award.
You struggle with lots of every day tasks apparantly but yet you want to get behind the wheel of a car:mad:
If you want to boost your income, ever thought about a job:rolleyes: You spend all day in front of your screen and keyboard so you would fit in well in an office?
Or is employment totally out of the question and you're just going to whinge your way through life??0 -

I have NEVER said that. Years ago, (before I knew whether or not I could drive) I actually said to various people that I didn't want a car. A friend of mine actually attempted to talk me out of gettiong a motorbike and into getting a car. Obviously, I got neither. If you want to boost your income, ever thought about a job:rolleyes:
Has it occured to you that I can't actually work?:rolleyes:I'd kill to be in your position so grow up.You may need to accept that your award is actually fair, and be grateful that you are not in need of the higher award. The money doesn't remove the disability!
The award isn't actually fair. Or are you aware of the amount of help I need & the amount of danger I've actually put myself in trying to be independent?
I know the money doesn't remove the disability, yet having more money would actually help me buy the equipment I need and pay for taxis when I'm out. (buses don't go everywhere)0 -

Ok then why? I use to work with a partial sighted person. She lived on her own and got herself out and about on public transport.
And use to use a magnify to see stuff.
She never let the fact that she hardly see hold her back. A very nice person who got on with her life and did not bemoan the fact that she hardly see.
I wish you all the best.
Yours

Benefits are there for those in need, regardless of age, employment status etc BUT it is rather galling to read the "rightfully mine" claim from a 19 year old who has never even contributed to the system!
You know what VAT is don't you?:rolleyes:Ok then why? I use to work with a partial sighted person. She lived on her own and got herself out and about on public transport.
Nystagmus, photophobia and squint aren't just a case of poor vision.0 -
I was just going to ask that, why can you not work?
1 good reason??
You are 19 and you've already conceeded to a life on benefits? Why?? Where is your up and go?? Where is the determination to move on (from your disability) and succeed in life??
If i thought for 1 minute that the next 50yrs of my life were going to be on benefits, i really would be near suicidal, people need a work ethic behind them, you can only sit at home in front of the computer/TV for so long before getting extremely bored and depressed. Its social interaction, it's achieving goals, etc.
Your attitude to me seems like your down and out with not a hope in the world? You are 19, whole life ahead of you and you're already whinging about benefit awards.
Get a grip, yes i have sympathy with you being partially sighted but that should not make you a weak person and unemployable.
Look at Mikey on BB, totally blind but he doesn't beat himself up about it.
I feel that you can work as you can sit in front of your computer all day at home so there would be no difference to doing the same in an office and earning.
I'll bow out now, but i seriously think you need to take a look at your life, once again you're 19, not 50. If your future is a life on benefits then that's entirely upto you, and its not for any of us to decide.
I just think you should be a bit more pro active and if you spent the same time and energy job hunting as you do complaining about DLA you would have a job in no time.
All the best, im not slagging you off, just wondering why you seem so ''down and out''0 -
Please dont say you contribute through the VAT system as that is a complete insult to every working tax payer in the country:mad:0

Has it occured to you that I can't actually work?
I have to ask Titch89,if you are basically saying that you're never going to work, what's the point in going to college-do you just intend to be a student all your life? Could you tell us what your illness actually is (nystagmus isn't an illness) I am a trained nurse and worked for some months at Birmingham Eye Hospital so would be very interested to know exactly what your eye problem is.
You seem an intelligent person and have many skills-seem to be independent etc. If your disability is so bad that your award is unfair why haven't you got disability rights workers fighting your case-seems the way to go to me.
Your life is going to be pretty boring if you intend never to work. In many ways it is easier for disabled folk to get work in that allowances are made and companies like to be 'PC.' My youngest is Autistic and has many problems,I am constantly told he is unlikely to be independent when he grows up but I am determined he will have some sort of working career, even if it has to be in a supported setting.
You want the money for taxis as buses 'don't go everywhere' so it seems to me you can travel around/work on a keyboard=probably able to work in some capacity?
Have you looked into the mobility schemes which provide cheap transport-all my local areas run this through the local council and provide taxi services for a nominal fee. If you don't qualify for these schemes then you need to accept things are not as bad as you think.
You are basically shooting the messenger on this forum as no-one here makes the rules, perhaps you should go to your MP if you feel the benefits rules are so unfair.
I provided an accurate account of my son's problems on the DLA form and it was backed up by his SENCO and Paed. I had said both privately and on here that if the award was turned down or only the lowest award I wouldn't argue it as I had done the best job I could with the forms and if on that basis the award was turned down/low I would accept it. It's a hard lesson to learn but you are best learning at your tender years that things won't always go exactly as you want them to and at times life will seem unfair. Arguing the toss doesn't always change that!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -
Why can't I work? Because right now, it's impossible to actually go out with getting a sore head & eyes. I'm also rarely (well, usually only evenings) fully awake.
Where have I ever said that I'm going to spend my life on benefits? Obviously, I' just going to go college for one year, go to uni for three years & get myself in debt and then not bother to work. Really worth doing, isn't it?
Being blind is totally different to what I've got.
I only cam here to ask for help. Oh, I thought that's what the forum was for - not to attack people because they have a legitamite reason for not working.0
