Thanks Toothsmith.
The problem is that as you say, specialist periodonist fees aren't covered by Denplan, and it looks like I'm going to have to pay approx £2500 over the next few months (ouch).
If I stick with denplan that covers the wisdom teeth I have to have taken out first, and everything else, and if I sign up with HSA I should be able to claim up to £2000 over the year, so I think its going to be a combination of both!
Off to Quidco right now....0 -
I don't know anything about denplan, but just to help in reply to Toothsmith's post.
You are covered for up to £2000, so 75% off £1500 is not a problem. I'll be claiming £1500 under maintenance and have only just joined. I checked it all through with HSA before joining and they said it was all covered.
Also, the maintenance is only one element of the HSA cover, it also has separate allowances for accidents, mouth cancer, emergencies.

Hi,
I'm in pain. I banged my head a few weeks ago and some of my wisdom tooth came out. It hurt then but settled down. It's playing up now, it hurts me!! I can't afford to go to the dentist at the mo. Does anyone know of a dental insurance company that doesn't have a three month wait before you can claim? it hurts!
ta,

lol nope! otherwise everyone would go with dental insurance companies rather than with the NHS.
I did the same a few years ago, and cracked my wisdom tooth (big chunk fell off). I was a student, so the cheapest option was to have it pulled out by my NHS dentist at home (no NHS dentist at uni would do it!!!). Can't remember how much it was, but it really wasn't that expensive. I think it's £42 now, including the sedation injection, and no one can see the gap because it's at the back!
If you haven't got an NHS dentist. Go on the NHS online web page, try and find a dentist that's taking on NHS patients, or phone them up and beg!!
hope you're feeling better soon xShould've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

thanks :-) i'll have a look for a NHS one, if not then i guess i'll just have to go to my usual dentist and see how much it'll cost then save up if it's a lot. i was classed as an NHS patient whilst at uni but when i finished they put me on private. :-/

I second finding an NHS dentist and getting treatment, don't leave it too late like I did - I could tell you one long very painful horror story!
In the mean time make sure it stays as clean as possible because an infection will hurt quite a bit if it gets into the root. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. How come they made you go private when you finished uni?! that's just mean!
Mine is also a horror story i'm afraid. my female NHS dentist couldn't pull the darn thing out (picture her with foot on dentist chair, plyers in hand tugging away at this tooth, whilst dental assistant is pinning my shoulders down....), so i then had to be driven 15 miles to a dental surgeon and get him to do it!
We stopped at tesco on the way home, and i smiled at a little old lady on my way in, unaware that my mouth was still dripping with blood. ohps.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

I know the answer to this question is to ring Boots, but their office is closed at the weekend, and it's bugging me now:mad: so if anyone knows the answer I'd be very grateful:D
My son's Boots dental plan expires on 11/10/07, and I have just made him an appointment for a check-up and scale and polish on 8/10/07, which will obviously be covered. I've advised him not to renew the plan as I believe the Tesco plan offers better vfm.
If he needs further treatment and will have to make an appointment after the plan has expired, will he still be able to claim as the need for treatment would have been identified before the expiry date of the insurance?
Thanks:D
