So, I will now arrange my check up for a date the 90 days and see what happen, although I am tempted to ring them to check.
My husband and myself took out Tesco dental insurance at the beginning of November, and although my husband was due for a check-up in December he held off booking the appointment until February so that he could be outside the 90 days exclusion period. He didn't have any apparent dental problems though;)
At the check-up it was found he needed 2 fillings which are booked for March. We haven't put in the claim yet as we are going to wait and claim for the whole lot at once. You have to submit it within 3 months.
I did phone to check all this, and was amazed that they don't even want a claim form signed by the dentist! Just itemised receipts. So much simpler than HSA or Boots, which we've used in the past, where a detailed treatment claim form had to be completed by the dentist.
As I say, we haven't claimed yet, so hopefully it will all go to plan:D

Thanks SparkyG, you have confirmed what I thought.
I am going to ring them...as a hypothetical case....and enquire if my OH would be covered as he hasn't been for a while.....(lying through my teeth).Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

I have just phoned the tesco dental helpline and spoke with a lovely person from AXA.
My scenario was that whilst i was a good person and up to date with my check ups.....(my nose grew longer by the second)...ny naughty husband hadn't been for ages and was now going to join my private dental practice.
So, my question was....did he have to have been recently...as you do with HSA....
And the answer was NO!!! As long as the 90 days were up since taking out the policy, all would be fine.
In fact the person told me that last week, someone who hadn't been for 15 years had enquired and they too would be covered.
So, whilst it is not 'cheap', cover is provided up to £2000 (I think) and if you need emergency treatment during the 90 day window..that is covered also.
I now feel so much better.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

No, you do not have to give details of your dentist, and you are free to go to anyone you want! In fact, the dentist does not really 'get involved' at all. As I said in a previous post on this thread, he/she does not even have to sign a claim form. All you need are detailed receipts. How easy is that??:D:beer: My glass is half full :beer:0 -

There are 2 bands of cover...one for NHS and the other for Private....so it may be worth checking as to if you can get in at an NHS dentist, or with my line of though, as Tesco are going to be paying for a chunk of whatever i have done, I'll go private....I think my initial consultation is £80 including x-rays etc, but I'm hoping for a better visit as I hate going and am a real wuss.
Also when I went to register, I was asked to pay a deposit...which is knocked off my first bill.
You have to pay the bill first and then send off for the money back.
There is also the 14 day cooling off period, so I took out the cover and then double checked I would be covered just to satisfy me.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Hi,
I've been looking at Tesco's Dental Insurance, and wondered if anyone had any advice on these products. Last year, I now know that I was fleeced from my dentist to the tune of £3500.00 for a crown that they said I couldn't have NHS. They done it privately and it ended up a four tooth bridge! So now I want to take out this insurance, but am unsure as to which one is the best. They offer 2 different covers, one best suited for private and one best suited for NHS. Can you take out both? Any help greatly appreciated!0 -
I have taken out the private one.
At present, I don't have an NHS dentist, or a private one....but I have registered with a private one and explained why I had delayed my first appointment.
Personally, I would rather go private and hopefully receive better care, but also private as more NHS dentists seem to be taking the private option.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0
