I've emailed HSA to ask what the treatment covers, just wondered if anyone knows of any exceptions to what they class as treatment??

I found that when I joined online it was impossible to see the terms and conditions until right near the end of the process, which is a bit annoying:mad: But you can go through the procedure until you get to the t and c's and then not continue if you so wish.

As far as I can see treatment covers all the usual: fillings, extractions, crowns, bridges and dentures. It does not cover implants, veneers or any cosmetic treatment. Unusually, it covers sedation and mouthguards which wasn't covered by the Boots dental plan.

mrsbez - if you want to PM me with your email address I'd be happy to send the Ts and Cs over to you.
  • When I found out how much work I needed (approx £1.5k) for dentistry, that day a HSA leaflet dropped through my door. It said that there was no waiting period before I could start claiming (apart from the materinity benefit).

I called the nice lady at HSA, and she confirmed this for me, even though I said I needed a root canal treatment and crown.

So I did lol - got my entire entitlement...in actual fact so far, with dentists, hospitalisation etc, they've paid me more than I've paid them :D think I'll cancel now......;)

I'm a bit confused:confused: . It now says on the website that there is a 3 month qualifiying period before you can claim for treatment, but routine maintenance is covered from day one.

I sent a email to HSA and they replied today, as my husband is due for a check-up next month. They stated the check-up will be covered (took out policy with them yesterday) but he won't be able to claim for any treatment if necessary, until the 5th February.

Have they just changed the t and c's?

    mrsbez - you've got mail.

SparkyG - apparently this is a fairly new plan, hence why Ts and Cs are not yet on the website. On the Ts and Cs they sent me last week when I took out a new policy it says maintenance consists of checkups, investigations, scaling, X-rays and hygienist.

Whereas treatment include crowns, bridges, white fillings and dentures, plus anaesthetist and lab fees.

So yes, a checkup will be covered immediately, but you'd have to wait till Feb for any treatment needed.

However under the Health Plan - which has a dental benefit included also - there is no mention of a qualifying period.

I'm just wondering, the leaflet you had through saying you could claim immediately for dental, are you sure it wasn't for their Health Cash Plan? This also has a dental element and doesn't mention anything about a qualifying period. Just wondered seeing as you mentioned maternity benefit, which I cannot see mentioned on the Dental plan, but it is mentioned as a benefit on the Health Plan.

That wasn't me who posted those comments:D

I thought they only paid up to 50% of your claim. Has that now changed or does it depend on how much you pay per month. I have some work that needs doing and have considered HSA for a while so now might be a good time to join.

Just a reminder that HSA aren't the only provider of dental/healthcare cashback and might not necessarily be the cheapest.

Martin has written an article comparing the different schemes HERE :)

That article is dated June 2005 and is way out of date:D

The new HSA dental plan was launched in Oct 2006 and appears to beats all the others hands down.

I'm not working for them or promoting them, just pointing out a good deal, ie. a money saving deal:j
