Scoot they stopped offering accounts to BR and the end of last year. There was a period of several months before where they didn't seem to know what was happening and some were lucky and got one while others were turned down being told they didn't offer accounts to BR's.

The only 2 bank accounts now are the Co-op cashminder and Barclays cash account.
Thanks for that. Will let my mates know. We have a co-op in town but no sign of a place where you can set up an account. Does this mean that if they took this one on they would have to do everything on-line? That is if barclays didn't accept them?

Scoot you can make deposits at your local post office, withdrawls from any cash machine and the rest by phone and internet.

Just as an appendices to the Nationwide thing, if you already have a basic account with them and you do not owe them money, then they will let you keep the account after a fax from the OR.

Unfortunately their account is with Halifax. They said they have been with them for years but I don't think that would count for much as they owe them money on a credit card. I told them to talk to Halifax just in case but I don't hold out much hope.

    Hi
The Coop girl said they dont credit check, they "put it through and it says yes or no". She said it had said yes- and it is there on the online banking.
I do wonder if she made a mistake and I got it by accident or if they'll close it down at some point. She did mention "upgrading" the basic account but dropped that idea sharpish when I pointed out my financial status (or non status, rather).
Im not intending using it at the moment- Im so skint Im lucky if Ive got a pound left at the end of the month.

    Hi all,

Cash ISAs are available to any one who is UK resident over the age of 16 so I would'nt be suprised they are not credit checked.

How can they run a credit check on a 16 year old??

    Cheers DEz

Speaking from bitter experiance and reading these boards I can tell you the moment that Halifax know they are BR their acountd will be closed with immediate effect..

    Hi Tiger,

If I had a few quid spare to put into a savings account I would dearly love to try the Halifax to open an ISA.
In fact once I have £10 spare I will try all the major banks to try to open an ISA and if I am refused then I feel I must take this further as an ISA is a government initiative to enable ALL UK Residents Tax Payers or not the opportunity to save in a tax free environment.
If an individual cannot take advantage of a governments incentive to allow All UK residents to save tax Free because of BR then I would say that is discrimination.

Give me a couple of weeks to raise the cash and I'll go for it,however if someone out there has £10 burning a hole in their pocket give it a try and let me know how you get on

Tell you what Dez, that sounds like a human rights issue - well nearly, not exactly Guantanamo Bay, but still... and I'm not taking the !!!!! Fair enough if we're not allowed credit for our sins, god knows most of us have had enough of it, in all senses (never mind that companies can go bust with far less severe implications for the directors etc). If you're serious PM me and I'll go halves with you on the up front cash. Why should we be denied any ways we can of saving what little pittances we can cobble together. Next case in the European Court: Mr D Titute and Mr B Liar. Reckon they'd take us seriously?
  • I got a savings account with Barclays just after ED, but they told me i could have had it sooner:eek:

If you don't already have one, open a Barclays basic account and get some activity going on it (that went in my favour that lots had been going on in there:rolleyes: SO and DDs etc) give it a few weeks and try..they can only say no.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(
  • So today I walked into the Chelsea Building Society (don't know if they have branches outside the south east) with a £20 note and half an hour later walked out with a "Branch Instant" savings account including a passbook printed up on site. As far as I can work out so far it's possible to pay in by electronic transfer from the old cashminder, but you have to go into the branch to withdraw. You can open it with as little as a quid. Of course I might get the letter in a week or so that says "sorry, we don't want you, you bankrupt pariah, scumbag, subhuman", but I have a good feeling about this!

PS Anyone else having to wait ages for the boards to load up on screen? I'm running Firefox on a Mac, Lil' is running Safari on Mac and is having the same problem, though it can't be our connection as everything else is loading just fine...

PPS Haven't been on board for a few weeks so sorry if either of these things has has been discussed to death already.

PPPS The book club looked a right laugh, sorry couldn't have been there.

Will keep my fingers crossed that you get to keep the account. It will be a useful new resourse for us bankrupts. Keep us updated please :)

I am having the same problem with the loading and I am on Firefox as well.
