It was referred, but I got the card in the post Wednesday (a nice blue one!) and the pin today. It took about 8 days. I didn't check internet banking until I got the card so I don't know when it went on.
Oooooh, I want a nice blue one too
<stamps foot>
I'll chase them up on Monday I think, thanks

Thanks all (no problem with the hijack Scarlett). The Post Office, credit unions and maybe Barclays look like the way to go. Already have the prepaid - strictly for holidays and ordering bits and pieces over the phone and net. Would be far too nervous at the idea of money owed to HRMC being on a mastercard. We've been in that sort of trouble before!!!! As for joint account, Lil' and I got into enough deep water with our individual accounts - god knows what we might have done with a joint one! BL0

Hi,
Be careful not too have much in the way of savings whilst you are undischarged otherwise it will be seized as ' after aquired property'.
If you have put down a holiday fund on your questionaire then some saving will be ok.

To be honest Billy I went for the money under the bed option. The money was for my ring fenced non-regular outgoings such as my car costs - maintenance & tax which were on my I&E and any little extra from coming under budget on living costs. I am not talking thousands here!!! This was because I was told I was not allowed to save whilst BR and due to my paranoia that the OR could check up on my finances at anytime - which he didn't, but could have. After having someone crawl all over my previous statements and affairs I decided that the only person who needed to know what money I had was me and the spiders under the bed. The spiders kept their mouths shut!!!
It was only for 12 months and when I was discharged I managed to open a savings account so my money could get a little interest apart from the spiders. (If you get ED then it could be less).
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I wanted to keep it simple whilst BR it seems like forever at the time but it was acutally only for a few months in the grand scheme of things. Especially when I spent years prior to BR with no savings or emegency cash at all and robbing Peter to pay Paul.0 -
Just make sure you don't have those new fangled talking spiders.

Post Office is probably the best bet - I'm starting to not like my e-savings account with Nationwide - put money in and it's too easy to transfer back to the flexaccount and spend it

Thanks for the warnings, and it is tempting just to bury my meagre scrapings in a sealed-up tin box in the garden. However this ain't secret money - it either goes to the OR or the taxman (don't know which, yet), so as I'm not trying to hide it just want to put it somewhere that it's difficult to spend. BL0
