hi, just purchised a new lap top for collage work but also have a pc upstairs, what i wanted to know is, when we get broadband will it be possible for us both to access the net at the same time.
Do we have to buy additional software, if so how much? We wern't sure because obviously on broadband i can use the phone at the same time.
Thanks.

If you get a ADSL router you can both be on the net at the same time.
You need to get a ADSL router with a modem built in.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

They range in price but you can get one about £60. You fit them yourself. You plug it in and then input your ISP information into the router.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

You could get this one from amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00080K42Q/qid=1130176971/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i4_xgl/202-2676258-2463037 or something similar.
What you need to do is very straightforward, but you need to know the answers to a few questions first.
Does your laptop have a wireless connection already? This will be built in if you have a centrino chip inside.
Are you wanting to go wireless with the laptop or use a wired connection? A wired connection is easier to troubleshoot but can mean long lengths of cable depending where you wish to position the laptop.
What operating system is on the PC upstairs and on the laptop? Sharing connections is easier on machines after windows 2000.
Once you know the answers to the questions you can purchase the hardware needed and then set it up.0 -
