loved playing it but was an only child so was only rarely able.....to play! (my edit)
Yes, rememeber that only-child hunger only too well. Still have it, I suppose...of having no-one with whom to play these games, the French term - jeux de societe(accents not working)so much more correctly evocative, as others have commented re:family/friends activiity together.
I have Supremacy, early fore-runner of Monopoly, named in war context, used by my mother since late 20's, early 30's. 'Money' is tanks, generals, battleships(100 points), with Destroyers, Submarines. Aeroplanes etc. 'Poor Bloody Infantry' are the lowest of the low, as in all Wars - worth 1 point.
Blind Flying and Night Attack replace Community Chest etc. Forts are built, rather than Houses and Hotels. It's more intricate than Monopoly as there are both penalties and bonuses for acquiring various units of currency, which can in turn be required saving, according to countries/strategic sites owned.
I believe my grandfather brought it back to NZ after 1st World War.
    Any memories from others?

My Dad and I always used to play "Escape from Colditz" when I was little. I remember always having to be the black police pieces though as it used to scare me being the one trying to escape! He still has it in a tatty looking box! Doubt he'd be willing to sell it though!

Plenty on eBay though if you are after one!

Mastermind was another one we used to play as well. Still love all those old classics!
Thanks for Colditz info - never shopped on Ebay though - and, after yesterday's news re crims being sentenced for conning people out of vast sums of money by selling non-existent goods on Ebay, I'm a bit scared of being duped. I'll look on the site though for Colditz - and perhaps jump in to buy - with my eyes tightly closed and holding my nose.......

I remember wanting it and my dad refused to have a swastika in the house .Quite right too. I think later editions had a German Cross instead of hte swastika. I guess it must have hit sales
  • Hello !
Just popped in to Woolworths in Eastleigh, Hampshire and they have an offer on their board games. Buy 1 get 1 Half Price.

They have Upwords reduced from 9.99 to 4.99 ! I chose another game priced at 5.99 and Up Words went throught the till at 2.49 no problem. Bargain game for adding to pile of xmas stuff for the kids me thinks. 2 games for less than a tenner !!

As my boys are getting older their gifts seem to be smaller so this sort of little extra looks great under the tree, makes it look more lol :rotfl:

Just checked online, no board games so in store only.
If you want to get ahead in the Rat Race then you will need some faster Rats !!
  • We love board games in our house - rummikub being the fave at the moment. Scene-it was £14.99 in B&M Bargains in Warrington last week. I loved Mastermind and Ker-plunk but they have both been changed (oh and Game of Life). Mastermind - you can't hide the pegs or reveal them at the end without upsetting the whole board because the little cover sticks! Ker-plunk - the plastic sticks are so flimsy they won't hold the marbles - I took ours back to Toysrus and got my money back!

    Here ends my moan!!

Ebay is perfecetly safe using Paypal.

If anyone asks you to pay any other way tell them to beat it.

    Cheers

I'm not sure that everyone agrees with that statement, there are numerous cases where people have lost money even when using PayPal, there are websites and forums all over which tell horror stories of people being out of pocket to the tune of hundreds of pounds, just be careful out there.
