Are you holidaying in the UK to save money?

Hi all
Just wondered if more people are holidaying in the UK to beat the credit crunch?
It sounds like camping is fast becoming a popular option; saving on the cost of accomodation.

I'm holidaying in the U.K. because I can get cheap breaks with partner and supplier hotels through my work (I know I'm lucky) but I would say that whilst this country can't rely on the weather, we do have an abundance of fabulous country hotels with full leisure and spa facilities in beautiful locations.

Americans are very big on holidaying in their own country. Maybe it's time we rediscovered our own?
The U.K. has wonderful hotels in locations that the rest of the World dreams about. It's absolutely criminal that they have rooms that lie empty in summer when they have so much to offer. We have a plethora of independent hotels who offer a standard of customer service that beats chain hotels hands down every day of the week and at a fraction of the price.

Just off the top of my head, I can think of several hotels in the U.K. who strive to go above and beyond the normal standards of customer service because they are passionate about what they provide.

One of the reasons I go on holiday is to get away from the UK so no chance of me holidaying here!
If the choice was holiday in a tent or a caraven or not go at all I would choose not to go away at all!!

Probably cheaper to go camping in France, Holland, Belgium etc anyway, and almost anywhere else in the world for hotels and b&bs.

Having just helped a friend wih getting a good deal on a UK holiday I find it hard to imagine it being a cheap holiday in the Uk.

I also travel a lot for business most weeks so I know how expensive and how rubbish many UK hotels are.

LOL - never checked condom prices (in MSE tradition, cheaper to give 'em a false name)...

We'd normally go off to Brittany for a week or so, but the euro/pound exchange rate has made it much more expensive for eating out, drinks etc The ferries also seemed much pricier for the longer crossings, plus petrol prices...all in all it just added up to way more than we wanted to pay.
So on Sunday we're off to Wales instead :T going to Cardiff first then a few days around the Gower and a couple in Pembrokeshire. Really looking forward to it and hoping for nice weather.

We always have UK holidays - we can do a nice cottage/food/travel/spends for less than £500 and thats for 4 of us - couldn't get that abroad.

Used to holiday in Cornwall all the time but the hotel changed hands and its not the same anymore. I find if I holiday in this country I am more likely to get calls regarding work and end up checking my email reguarly but I value my 'me' time abroad more than I would staying in the UK. Thats just me though.

    Change your travel company.
I'm well aware that many chain hotels are the same little box all over the World so I always endeavour to get my clients a unique property that they would be happy to take their loved ones to for a weekend.
