Yes you can freeze cream but it will alter its texture once defrosted.
I have frozen half a pint of double cream today in ice cube trays. I shall use the cubes in sauces and casseroles where I think it will be fine. However I think I'll be disappointed if I try to whip it.0 -

hi, i'm not sure about the extra thick, i know you can freeze whipped whipping or double, but not unwhipped.
i have leftover cream from puds today so am going to make a potatoe and onion and thyme bake with mine, can't spell or pronounce the name, somehting like savoyard potatoes, or duphenwas!
will eat it relatively quickly so imagine i could freeze but will be eaten first here!nov grocery challenge, £.227.69/300, 9/25 nsd: , 7 Cmo, 10 egm.
Me, 10 yo dd, and the dog. all food and drinks, in and out, plus household shopping.0 -

You can freeze double cream, but whip it first otherwise it seperates.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Thanks for that, I have a large tub of double cream as well. I will make potatoes dauphinoise then, thanks for the idea.
Maman, how did you freeze it? In an oven proof container? and when you go to use it, do you just bung it into the oven or defrost first? that is the bit I have the problem with, I can cook it but don't know how to handle it then, what to store it in the freezer and how to cook it afterwards.0 -
any more ideas for using up cream? I have a full unopened tub of double cream use by 31 dec and half an opened one. does panna cotta use up lots of cream as because I don't buy cream very often I'd like to make something special that uses quite a lot of it. I was going to do a trifle on boxing day but had forgotten to do the jelly in the morning!0
