  • I use the old Microsoft Money to monitor my accounts. Works fairly well and avoids the security issue of having to put your login details onto a single piece of software. I have an excel macro that converts egg statements into ofx files so no issues.

Apples vs oranges there. The 'money managers' being talked about here are basically glorified password rememberers (like the ones found in browsers) that can also show you the current balances.

Microsoft Money, on the other hand, is something that has to be updated manually.

  • I looked into this and decided I would not use Egg Money Manager for two reasons:

    (1) Fraud issues...as discussed above there is no blanket guarantee that fraud via your Egg Money Manager will be refunded; rather the opposite in fact. The consumer generally takes the hit.

    (2) Egg say in their T&C's that they will use your financial details for various purposes. Which is not such a biggie as (1) but still undesirable.

Read through all of that, only to discover its not available for macs!
  • I've had an Egg savings account for a while and used the Money Manager this morning.
All I can say is WOW. This is one powerful tool. In 10 mins I had all my accounts listed in Egg:-
    1. Am using Firefox so to prevent download of IE I had to reload Egg in an IE tab (a rather useful Firefox tool in its own right!)
    2. Added my other accounts in 5 mins. Just had to recall other account passwords (easy because they're already stored in the also excellent Roboform).
    3. Egg displayed the amalgamated accounts. Rather usefully it gives a total of all your accounts. (Not sure I wanted to know that I had more money than I thought :-)

Lloyds bank access. Lloyds uses 3 drop down character selection lists for a password entry. Egg does this automatically. WOW again. Openning up my Lloyds account from Egg is like playing a game...so cool.

A tip. To do this you have to use IE. You can bookmark Egg in Firefox but you need to change the browser to IE. Do this by modifiying the Egg Bookmark as follows. Add the following string BEFORE the current URL:-
    chrome://ietab/content/reloaded.html?url=

As usual with such a fantastic tool there must be a gottcha. I guess if your PC dies you're stuffed unless you have your passwords kept offline somewhere (must do a Roboform archive).

And is it really IMPOSSIBLE for somebody at Egg to find out your account information. I guess the same questions apply for Roboform. Cheers.
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

Or open up the IETab options and add the partial URL in there, for example for eWise's version, you'd use:

    https://*.ewise.com.au/*

eWise's version allows you to store your password safe on removable media. Egg doesn't (yet?) allow you do do that, so with Egg (1) anyone with access to your PC could conceivably use it if they know your Egg passwords (2) if you use more than one PC, you have to enter the details into Egg every time.

They cannot access your login credentials, however there has been some speculation (covered also in the Egg T&Cs) that they could possibly acquire the types/names of accounts you hold and the balances (since they're displaying them within the Egg site.) This bothers some people.

  • I've just had to change my settings in Egg Money Manager to download a new 'passport safe' - which IE7 telle me is an unsafe security level. Also I see Egg has changed its T&Cs to share personal details with other countries with less stringent financial regs - these both seem problematic to me.

I signed up for Egg Money Manager at 5pm, and by 10pm, it was broken.
I'm getting this message: "The page you're trying to get to isn't available at the moment. We're working hard to fix this for you. Please try again later."

Nice while it worked though, but clearly not very reliable.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

I think you'll find that, that describes the whole of Egg's website.

I guess I shouldn't be so quick to judge, as I might have just been unlucky, but not off to a good start!
