Buyers cheque sent in an unstamped envelope... What can I do ?

go to the post office and ask to look at the letter before deciding to pay the fee or not - I would.
I have done this on several occasions and each time I chose not to accept the letter.
The one time MY OH had this it was because the letter was 0.05mm to wide and only had a standard stamp. My OH argued politely with the person who said don't worry about the fee.
fair enough but this cheque is for £1.74
hardly worth the cost in petrol + the charge given it wipes out the cheque esepcially given 75p of it is for P+P0 -
I'm sure a bank would get the postage right - mine always does. The only difference I can see for the 39p is if the sender put on a regular second class stamp 27p and it should have been sent as a large letter weighing between 250-499g - whish is 66p. Not likely to be a cheque.0

lol,i charge banks and bank customers every day0 -
I sent blood by post to a London hospital I am sure it never got collected at the hospital due to not paying the right amount.
Wonder what happens to it?
I hope the post office destroyed it as clinical waste.
Would be cheaper to have let it go.0 -

well this is the case but where do you draw the line?
i deal with 100's of items a week that are underpaid
personally i would be happy if RM just sent all underpaid items straight for destruction

I paid to collect a cheque for the same amount once. I didn't cash it, and didn't send the item either, as I heard not a word of apology nor offer to repay my costs.
Email the buyer, ask to resend payment, if they're not amenable, take appropriate action, then relist.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
As per the other posts this is VERY unlikely to be the buyers cheque as the amounts don't add up.
Therefore if cheque has still not arrived just open an NPB.
As for the item waiting collection at the sorting office my last one was a letter from my sons uni about a small overpayment of catering fees..I hadn't been expecting it and would never have realised they were sending a (admittedly) small cheque so would have lost out. They had sent it as a letter instead of a large letter.
The one before that (I get a few) was a birthday card that again was a large letter rather then the letter that was paid for, and I also had a plant catalogue just before that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Letters from business's often get sent out with incorrect postage as the franking machines sometimes skips a beat and misses a letter0

Working in a PO I have to deal with customers everyday who have put incorrect postage on items.
Two years custody?? I spose it must be close to that! Was it August?
Anyway, I am starting to think that card manufacturers should actually print on packaging that when a card has a badge or something on it that it must go as a Large Letter!
Why do so many people not know after all this time and yes, that includes businesses!
People get so irrate when I tell them they need to pay more...... yet surely that pales into insignificance compared to the reciever!0 -
well i remember it by xmas's
1st year we let it all slide pretty much
lasy year we started charging xmas items0
