BGB I have my own house, and it's great knowing I can do what I want decorating wise, and have pets, my sis has a new build and she loves it cos there's nothing to do, it's probably the cost making you hesitate, but you get used to the mortgage and at least one day it will be yours.
Cost is probably less than my place at the moment :jBought this place when I was 24 (it was my 2nd place - bought somewhere cheap as chips at just the right time in Edinburgh as the prices really took off), so probably time to follow them well worn path of 30-somethings out of the city and move to a house. The only hesitation is getting mine sold, although new place not ready till early-July so a good amount of time to sell mine (I think!) This place will be mine when I'm 48, so it's just a choice of here or there as I'll transfer the present mortgage across hopefully with a bit extra from here to have as a safety-net and make me debt-free too! Sounds perfect. Don't know why I'm not 100% though
Maybe the bigger the house the emptier it will feel which is maybe part of it. Does everyone else live alone or share? I can quite happily pass weeks without really seeing or chatting to anyone if I'm off work - am I the only one like that?!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -

I live alone - couldn't share, no way, like yourself it doesn't bother me not chatting or seeing anyone when I'm off work, don't get me wrong I'm not totally unsociable :rotfl: I can chat for ages on the phone to my mates but have no problem with my own company (probably something to do with being an only child), although some of mates seem to have a problem with me being on my own & I know they mean well when they stay "come over & stay" but I like being in my own place, you know, do what you like, when you like, eat what you want, when you want, wander round in nude if the fancy takes you :rotfl:
Don't Take Life too Seriously - Nobody gets out alive :rotfl:0 -
I live alone except for the dogs, and like Inky I'm not unsociable but I couldn't share now, I have friends that say come and stay too, and I always think why? I have a house, and sleeping in a house on my own isn't scary now, it was at first.0

It's a curse, eh?! I'm one too!!! Think it definitely gets you used to being able to amuse yourself - never need anyone else around to spend the day quite happily. I always feel really awkward staying with other people. Makes me feel like a complete spare part when I'd really rather be at home with my jammy bottom on sitting in very unflattering positions on my own sofa watching the TV channel I want to watch while munching away unglamorously on some snack or other strumming on a guitar!
God, I sound a picture, don't I?!
Amazing the amount of people who have said to me, "You could get someone to houseshare" WHIT?! NOOOOOOO. That would drive me insane and put me totally on edge all the time. "Think of the money" they say and all I can see is stress and wanting to be out of my own house as often as possible to avoid them Ha ha!!!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
I get exactly where you're coming from BGB, Tuesday I didn't even bother getting dressed, pottered about in my dressing gown, did some painting, make cakes, lounged around in "unflattering positions" watching tv or reading while listening to my ipod.
Never had trouble amusing myself, used to work with someone who couldn't be on her own when her OH worked nights she either arranged to have someone come & stay or she'd go to MIL's :eek:Don't Take Life too Seriously - Nobody gets out alive :rotfl:0 -

I have a spare room and I'd rather give the junk house room than put up with some one in it, my neice stopped the other week for a night and it was ok, we had a drink and ate loads of popcorn, but it wasn't the same as been on my own doing what I want in my jim jams. My brother asked me the other week if i would ever live with someone again, I said I sometimes think I will, then picture them in the house and think god no, I'll have to rethink that one.0 -

No you're not. I'm just fine in my own company too. I live and work on my own and I'm fine with that.
On the house front, do you badly need the money from a sale or could you get away with renting out the city property whilst buying the new one? Potentially more aggravation I know but a sacrifice now could really pay dividends when the first mortgage is paid off. I realise that you may well need to raise a deposit by selling but wondered if the discount on the second property could be worked into the equation as a deposit. If that would all cause too much financial stress though, I wouldn't bother.0 -
Morning people!!
BGB... I can't really advise you on the house, I have no idea about buying/selling houses, but I know I wouldn't let the fact that it's 4 bedroomed put you off. Fair enough you might not need 4 bedrooms right now but things change and as much as you're happy enough on your own just now, one day you will live with someone, wether it's now or 20 years time, things WILL change! Plus whats the harm in having 4 rooms all to yourself anyways? I'm sure you've got plenty of stuff to fill themGood Luck with whatever you decide.
I watched Frankie Boyle the other week, he mentions Bathgate in it, I didn't realise it was a place an then I guessed it must have been where you were from. Did you say you've watched it? I remember someone saying they'd seen it.
Inky... I also know people who can't stay at home is their partners are away for the night. I think it's ashame, I'd hate to feel like that. I am very happy when I'm on my own :j :j I'm often sat here, just drinking a cuppa in total silence and I feel so content I love it
Oh and I'm not an only child.
Lula... just 3 weeks till my hols.(2 weeks till courteeners and 2 weeks and 3 days till I see the gorgeous Brandon)So...as you can imagine I am VERY VERY :j . Although I have NOTHING sorted yet  I'll have to get my passport dug out! I need so much
I don't need to worry about spending money though as I got an upgrade and sold the phone to a friend for £200 so thats my spending money sorted! I'm hoping that I won't even spend that in a weekend but would rather have too much than too little! When do you and DD go on holiday?
