Sounds like a good plan. Better off having a few planned treats than nothing and going off plan.:jMay 2013 new beginnings:j0

:hello: Just a sort of final update on this topic and very moneysaving as my cat feeding bill should now probably shrink significantly!

First of all - another neighbour told me that she found out that they'd had the cat I was worried about put to sleep.
Evidently the vet had said that they must have her spayed as he didn't think she could take another litter, and they couldn't afford it on top of the other vets bills to have their two male cats neutered and all the latest batch of kittens wormed and jabbed.
So I'm really sad about that - I understand - but it's probably not what I would have done in their shoes.
Anyway, then, I was sat in my garden on my "park bench" reading the paper and having a coffee when I heard this neighbour and my next door neighbour chatting over the fence as they pegged out the washing.
My next door neighbour was saying she was struggling with money quite a bit and was happy to babysit whenever they wanted cos she really needed the dosh, and the owner of all the cats was saying that she just put the cheapest crunchies down for her cats these days to save money
"cos they can go and miaow at that silly cow the other side of you, and she'll feed them if they're hungry"
And she's right!

They come and finish off my cats's food every day and they're always miaowing at my door and going through everyone's bins - and none of them look particularly brimming with health so I've been giving them leftovers and anything we can spare really....
One of them dragged a bag of cat crunchies out of my pantry into the garden and chewed and clawed a hole in it then pushed it around the lawn trying to get some food out. I went and cut it open. I figured he'd earned it by then!
I s'pose I should stop - but will she have them all put down now if they get too costly and they're not so cute and kittenny any more????

WHAT?! You can't kill a cat because you can't afford it - if you can't afford it, you shouldnt have it in the first place... omg this makes me so mad. If i were you, I'd call the rspca - this woman doesn't deserve animals. And you're not a silly cow - thank god you're there. Bless you.0

I agree - i could never put an animal down for inconvenience  its just wrong!! Even trying to rehome it first, if she knew you fed them, she could even have offered you the chance to give it a home rather than put it to sleepWHAT?! oh Jacks; this is not right...
I think you need to involve the RSPCA; if she doesn't want to afford the cats she needs to get them rehomed.
I find it difficult that she didn't even think of asking you if you would rehome one rather than put it down.
I had to have mine put down; she was ill. It hurt a lot; so much that I cannot think of getting another. She seems to be so callous.0 -
Well she knew you fed the cat already and would probably have taken it on rather than the alternative-so basically she's just a cow.
I'd feed her other cats so much they NEVER go home personally !!!I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Oh my god I cant believe a vet actually put her to sleep for that reason?!!! Surely they should have recommended the cat be re-homed or given to the RSPCA. How awful. I think u should call the RSPCA before anything happens to the other ones x0

Hi,
I don't think you are daft! I would have been feeding the cats too. I am shocked that the vet put the cat to sleep too, that is heartless!
I agree with the others about contacting the RSPCA and seeing what they say.Debt Free - done
